Le bâtiment le plus célèbre de Sintra est le palais de Pena. Construit dans les années 1840, au sommet de la colline, on peut facilement le voir depuis Lisbonne et c’est l’un des palais les plus fantastiques d’Europe. Le palais est un site du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO et l'une des sept merveilles du Portugal. Ce palais est une référence maximale de l'architecture romantique portugaise.
C’est l’une des principales attractions touristiques de Sintra. Ce village magique avec ses jardins néo-manuélins extravagants, a été imaginé par le concepteur d'opéra italien Luigi Manini, sous les ordres du magnat brésilien des pierres précieuses et du transport, António Carvalho Monteiro, connu de Monteiro dos Millões.
Le palais de Monserrate est une belle demeure seigneuriale du 19ème siècle. Ce palais à la décoration extravagante allie les styles architecturaux portugais, arabe et indien et est l’un des plus beaux bâtiments de Sintra. Le palais a été commandé par Francis Cook, un baron du textile anglais, qui a utilisé le domaine comme une résidence d’été. Les jardins du palais de Monserrate abritent des spécialistes et des jardins exotiques composés de plantes non indigènes. Ce palais est le plus petit des trois palais de Sintra, mais il est de loin le plus décoratif et le plus beau.
À l'extrême pointe de l'Europe, là où la terre se termine et où commence la mer. La montagne de Sintra rencontre ici brusquement l'océan Atlantique dans une falaise de plus de 100 m de haut. La cape est balayée par le vent, et même en plein été, il peut faire assez froid pour une veste ou un pull. Lorsque le temps le permet, la vue sur la falaise est à couper le souffle.
Située sur une falaise au large de Lisbonne, près de Sintra, Azenhas do Mar compte parmi les plages les plus appréciées et les plus passionnantes d’Europe. En raison de la vue imprenable qu'il offre, il reste une destination touristique populaire en hiver et en été. Cela vous donne l'occasion d'admirer le grand océan Atlantique dans toute sa splendeur. Avec ses maisons blanches perchées sur le versant nord et ses extraordinaires piscines creusées dans le roc.

Antonio was a great guide for the day. We visited all main Sintra sites in the morning and headed to Cape Cabo and a fantastic beach in the afternoon. It was so easy being driven around on the private tour as we could spend time where we wanted. Would recommend beating the crowds via this way of touring. Make sure you check when and where to book palace and other areas prior to the tour.

This is a good option for those who have a sense of what they would like to see and don’t need/want a guide to tell them about the sites you see. Mostly, this was an extremely convenient and personalized ride service - where you didn’t have to worry about how to get to the next site and you had great help navigating where to purchase tickets for the site.

We really enjoyed the ‘full-day’ tour of the entire Sintra area with Classic Sintra Tours. Although the historic area is crowded were given great direction from Antonio our guide and driver for the day and he told us where to go and what to visit so as to maximise our experience. The 5 lakes of the Pena Palace is a great place to start and walk up to the Palace in the cool air and shade. (Especially if it’s hot) Start early! The admission fee for the Palace was 12 EUR each and as there are many renovations inside and to keep your time, we felt an inside tour unnecessary. The views from the top are great. We also had a timed ticket for the Quinta da Regaleira and we walked there from the old town. The visit was well worst it, stunning. Antonio was very relaxed and informative and made our day very pleasant. Great local understanding and personalised service.

Antonio was a superb personal tour guide! Born in Sintra, he knew the whole area in detail and was keen to share it with us. He gave helpful explanations about which walking routes to take at the castle, palaces and seaside locations and kept us on schedule without ever making us feel rushed. The lunchtime recommended restaurant suited our food preferences perfectly. We packed an awful lot into our day and were so grateful for Antonio's flexibility, which made it truly a day to remember always! Highly recommended.

During our full day tour, we had the opportunity to choose exactly which sights we wanted to explore. Our tour guide, Antonio, was familiar with the area which made the experience feel seamless and personalized, ensuring we could see as many sights as time allowed. The vehicle was simple but comfortable and well-suited for the tour. During our visit, his familiarity with the area proved especially helpful, as the region was still recovering from several storms that had closed some routes to certain sights. One memorable moment was when we asked for a beachside spot for fresh fish—he led us to the perfect gem, Nortada Restaurant in Colares. With stunning views and delicious food, it was the ideal addition to an already unforgettable day. My friends and I truly had an incredible tour. Highlights? The Initiation Well at Quinta da Regaleira and the grounds, Monserrate Palace and beautiful grounds (really liked their little outdoor/indoor cafe), National Palace, and exploring the Cabo da Roca area with our picturesque lunch spot Something we would do differently? nothing comes to mind

We had the most wonderful day with Antonio. Six of us took the train from Lisbon and met Antonio outside the station.
