Saveurs d'Éthiopie : Cours de cuisine pratique à Addis-Abeba

This was the highlight of our trip! The food was so good, the hosts were so welcoming, and we learned so much about the culture. It was very special being welcomed into their home so warmly and making and sharing a meal. Roasting the coffee beans we'd brew and drink was also a really cool experience! We had debated doing this or a food tour in the city and I'm so happy we chose this one. Would recommend!

I had a wonderful experience with Liyu and their cooking class in Addis Ababa. They picked me up from my hotel exactly at the agreed time, which was a great start to the day. We then drove to their home, where their grandmother and the rest of the team were warmly waiting for us. Everyone was incredibly patient, welcoming, kind, and professional. I truly enjoyed every moment of the experience and felt very comfortable and well taken care of throughout the day. I would like to sincerely thank the entire Liyu team for their warm hospitality and for giving me such a wonderful and memorable experience. I highly recommend this cooking class to anyone who wants to experience Ethiopian culture, food, and hospitality in a warm and authentic way.

This cooking class was the perfect way to spend a few hours in Addis! They had great communication beforehand, even when I booked within one day, and arrived to pick me up where I am staying 10 minutes early. Mahi was an absolutely fantastic guide - approachable, kind, explained everything well. Her grandma and other family members were lovely too. We made 3 dishes, plus injera, had homemade tej (honey wine), and did a full traditional coffee brew from washing and roasting beans to enjoying some cups together. Highly recommend! There's even a cute rabbit and 2 kitties.

Excellent class! I enjoyed it a great deal and learned to cook five Ethiopian dishes plus how to make coffee the traditional way starting from green coffee beans. Highly recommended!

This cooking class and coffee making experience was amazing!! I was picked up on time and taken to their family house. The granddaughter, perfect English and she taught me how to prepare the Ethiopian food. We made injera with three vegetarian foods to dip it in. I also learned how to roast, hand grind, and brew coffee in the traditional Ethiopian way.

We had a wonderful experience with this Ethiopian cooking class and were very satisfied from start to finish. We learned so much about Ethiopian cuisine and culture. During the class, we made injera, experienced a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, and even got to taste Ethiopian honey wine. Everything was explained clearly, and it was a truly hands-on experience. Everyone was incredibly warm and welcoming, especially our guide and Grandma, who patiently taught us every step of the cooking process and shared the traditions behind each dish. They made us feel right at home. We highly recommend this cooking class to anyone visiting Ethiopia who wants an authentic and memorable cultural experience!

Fantastic. Incredibly authentic, rich and valuable cultural and culinary experience in a traditional local home. We learned to cook and roast coffee by hand from the best grandma cook in the city and ate with the family. So generous, warm and welcoming. Not to mention the great Ethiopian music in the background. A must do in Addis Ababa.

I had an excellent time at Mahlet’s cooking class! It was a very authentic experience at an Ethiopian home, and I loved making the injera and seeing coffee prepared the traditional way. Thank you for a great Ethiopian experience!

Mahlet was a superb guide and has a wonderful family playing a supporting role especially by her grandmother throughout the cooking experience. She has an exceptional ability to meet the participants at their cooking and culinary knowledge level bringing in appropriate background behind each ingredient and recipe we made. She entertained every question we asked and we really appreciated the historical and cultural information she passed along the way that really enriched our cooking experience overall. In particular, we thoroughly enjoyed the traditional coffee ceremony from the washing, roasting and grinding of the beans to grandma’s preparation and service of the smooth and tasty coffee that Ethiopia is known for. Having attempted making a few traditional Ethiopian recipes the week prior, I was truly humbled by the delicious food prepared in class. Now I have some lessons learned to take home and a special experience shared with my daughter that I’ll cherish forever.
