Description

Food selection could still be improved. Guide was good but I think there tour can still be further enhanced.

Thank you for joining the tour and for your feedback. I’m glad you appreciated the guiding aspect of the experience. I also appreciate your comments about the food selection, as I’m always looking for ways to refine the tour. The concept of this experience is to explore Liberdade through São Paulo’s cultural diversity and migration history, using food as part of that broader story. Thanks again for sharing your perspective.

Wonderful food tour and guide!

Our guide, Giuliano, was wonderful. It was raining quite hard at the start time of our tour, making it difficult for some people to get there on time, but Giuliano patiently waited before starting the tour. It was interesting hearing about the history of Japanese in Sao Paulo, and all of the food we sampled was delicious.

Thank you very much for your kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the tour despite the rainy start. That day’s weather was definitely exceptional, so I was happy we could make it work and still have a great experience together. It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed learning about the history of the Japanese community in São Paulo, and I’m very happy you liked the food as well. Thank you again for joining the tour — it was a pleasure having you there!

Great tour to learn the history of SP and Liberdade

Great tour with our guide. He was excellent. My only comment is that compared to other food tours that I have done around the world, this tour did not provide the same food experience. There were several tastes of various foods ( appetizer so to speak or dessert. I thought we might have tasted some Asian food from the local stands but we did not. The empanadas were great. The final stop for a specific desert pastry and coffee was great. We learned a lot about the history of SP and the migration of the Japanese and their assimilation to the entire Brazilian culture. Also how Liberdade has grown to be more of a blend of Brazilian diverse cultures rather than a Japanese community.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful review and for joining the tour — I really appreciate your perspective. I’m glad you enjoyed the experience overall, especially the historical context, the stories of migration, and some of the food stops along the way. Liberdade has a fascinating and complex identity, and it’s great to hear that part resonated with you. I also truly appreciate your comment about the food selection, as it gives me the opportunity to clarify something for future guests reading this. The Liberdade Street Food Tour is not focused exclusively on Asian cuisine — it’s designed to reflect the cultural diversity of São Paulo. While Liberdade is widely known for its Japanese roots, today it’s a space shaped by many different communities and influences, and the food we try follows that same idea. The goal of the tour is to combine food with cultural and historical context, rather than offering a full-meal or cuisine-specific experience. That said, I understand how expectations can vary, especially for those who have done other food tours around the world. We try to be unique as unique is the city of Sao Paulo! Thank you again for your feedback — it’s genuinely valuable — and I’m very happy you still had a positive experience overall.

We are in Sao Paulo a few days before boarding a cruise from Santos. Our guide was knowledgeable of things we can do while in Sao Paulo and Santos. Thoroughly enjoyed the food walking tour to learn more.about Sao paulo. Food was delicious 😋. I highly recommend this adventure.

Thank you very much for your kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the tour and that it helped you get a better sense of what to do not only in São Paulo, but also in Santos before your cruise. It’s always nice to know the experience can be useful beyond the tour itself. Great to hear you enjoyed the food as well 😋 — that’s always an important part! Thanks again for the recommendation, and I wish you an amazing trip ahead!

No clear itinerary provided for paid customer

A clear and complete itinerary was not provided when needed, which made it impossible to rejoin the group. I genuinely wanted to like this tour, but unfortunately it turned into my worst experience in São Paulo on my very first day. Before the tour, I informed the operator that I would be slightly delayed and arriving at around 12:45 PM due to heavy traffic in São Paulo. I also asked in advance where the group would be during the tour so I could join them if I missed the initial meeting point. While initial communication was acceptable, the overall coordination was not sufficient. I was directed to the first stop (“Pastel Yamaguchi”), but when I arrived, no one from the tour was there. I repeatedly asked about the next stops, but they were hesitant to clearly provide or confirm the second and third stops, which made it impossible for me to locate the group. A professional tour operator should provide a clear and complete itinerary, including all planned stops, especially when a guest is trying to rejoin the group. This basic level of transparency was lacking. I attempted to contact them multiple times, and TripAdvisor customer service also tried to reach them, but there was no response at all. The operator was also not accommodating to a situation caused by heavy traffic, which is quite common in São Paulo. As a result, I was unable to join the tour. With only 3 days in Brazil, this situation resulted in a significant loss of both time and money, and caused unnecessary stress at the start of my trip. Based on this experience: • Coordination was insufficient • Meeting instructions were not properly managed • They were hesitant to provide clear information about the second and third stops • A full itinerary was not clearly shared when needed • No support was available when issues arose • Lack of flexibility for real traffic conditions in São Paulo I strongly recommend that future travelers confirm all meeting details and request a full itinerary in advance, or consider alternative providers.

Hi Julia, I’m sorry to hear that this situation affected your first day in São Paulo. For clarity to future travelers, I’d like to explain how this unfolded. The tour has a fixed start time at 12:30, and as clearly stated in the booking confirmation and in our messages, it is not possible to join once the experience has started. You informed me in advance that you would arrive around 12:45, and I explained that late arrival would not allow participation. Despite this, I still attempted to assist before the tour began by indicating the first stop. However, this is a moving group experience with multiple guests, and it is not operationally possible to provide a live itinerary or real-time location updates once the tour is in progress. You later confirmed that you arrived at 12:51, by which time the group had already moved on. Regarding communication, I responded to all messages prior to the start of the tour. Once the experience begins, my full attention is dedicated to the group, and I am not able to manage ongoing calls or messages. I understand that traffic in São Paulo can be unpredictable, but for this reason guests are advised to arrive a few minutes early. The no-show policy applies in cases of late arrival, as outlined at the time of booking. This experience is designed to run smoothly for all participants, and I encourage future guests to plan accordingly so they can fully enjoy it. I wish you a better experience during the rest of your trip.
