Greenich Observatory

Wonderful place , full of history . Very educational, might be a bit complex for young people to understand. But so important historically especially the story of John Harrison and the problem of longitude. Greenich park is very nice as well. Well worth a vist

Science, time, and history all come together.

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich is one of London’s most fascinating historic sites—where science, time, and history all come together. The highlight, of course, is standing on the Prime Meridian Line (0° longitude), where the Eastern and Western Hemispheres meet. It’s a unique experience and a great photo spot! Inside the observatory, you’ll find amazing exhibitions on astronomy, navigation, and the history of timekeeping. The Great Equatorial Telescope and the historic timepieces, including John Harrison’s famous marine chronometers, are especially impressive. The location itself is stunning—perched at the top of Greenwich Park, it offers one of the best panoramic views of London, stretching across the River Thames and the city skyline. ✅ Educational and fun for all ages ✅ Incredible view from the top of the hill ✅ A must-visit for history and science lovers Whether you’re curious about astronomy, want to stand on the Prime Meridian, or just enjoy London’s heritage, the Royal Observatory is well worth the visit.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and feedback regarding your experience visiting the Royal Observatory. You have summed up our site in such a beautiful way that we are thrilled to hear you had such an insightful and meaningful visit with us. We are very proud of our site and the stories we tell, so it is always a bonus when visitors like yourself think the same! Our team shares stories of the Observatory, timekeeping and navigation from the Observatory's founding up to today. As the site is historic, there are some spaces that are accessible only by stairs (Octagon Room and Great Equatorial Telescope) however for those visiting who may not see these spaces, we encourage you to speak with staff who can give you information about these spaces as well as potentially provide some images. For those who visit with a particular interest in Astronomy and all things space, our Astronomy team have recently moved down to the National Maritime Museum temporarily whilst renovation works begin. There are experiences and Planetarium shows at the NMM so that our fantastic Astronomers can still deliver a brilliant experience to visitors. For more information please check out our website, specifically Astronomers Takeover

Worth a visit. Catch a talk or a tour to get the most out of your trip.

It’s in a beautiful location with a rich history. We were able to be there for a couple of the talks by one of the volunteers. He was very knowledgeable and engaging. We loved it.
