Very Crowded - Go Early to avoid the crowds. Were comfortable shoes. You can still get good pictures from outside near the street. There is baggage drop outside the tour office but no bathroom.

The colosseum is well worth the visit. However the skip the line ticket collection was a nightmare. Firstly the hop on hop bus stop had been changed so we were quite a distance away before we started. Then the instructions on where to collect the tickets was not very clear at all. We were sent what we thought was the entry ticket to our email only to find it was actually only a voucher and we had to find the collection point to get the tickets. When we finally arrived with minutes to spare we found we could have bought tickets at the colosseum and saved ourselves nearly an hour of walking.

Very easy way to access the Colosseum on your own. We downloaded a free audio tour through Rick Steven’s. Note that you pick up tickets a few blocks offsite but it was easy and no lines:

Fantastic experience Everything was well organized, with ticket pickup at an office near the Colosseum with very kind and helpful staff. We had not downloaded their audio-video guide application beforehand as indicated in the voucher, and they supported us by giving us the office Wi-Fi and helping us with the installation. They gave us a beautiful map of the Colosseum and the main points of the audio guide, like in amusement parks, and a gadget. Entering the Colosseum from the Arena entrance in the late afternoon is a wonderful experience. I recommend it to everyone Then the audio guide lasts 48 hours and you can visit 5 monuments.

i bought two tickets to the coliseum in rome with skip the line . first of all i don't understand the system of why do i have to find somebody in the street to give me the ticket instead of receiving it online. when i got there it took 15 minutes for the person to arrive then another 10 minute for the office to send them by mail. after that she gave some excuse that because of some reason maybe we will hae to stand in the regular line we went to the gate and they said that there are no skip the line ticket. probably i was over charged i didn"t check what the price is for the regular entry fee but most likely i was cheaper. so i woudn't recomend
