The company was amazing and very responsive. Abraham, our tour guide and drive was wonderful and very knowledgeable about so many things. He was attentive and made us feel wanted. 4stars because the cave and Iguana park were not really all that great. The guide was upset that he had to speak both Spanish and English. He gave great explanations in Spanish, but when he spoke English it was not even half of what he said in Spanish. The Iguana park is just iguanas in a big open air tank.
We had an amazing day with Abraham! From the start to finish he curated the perfect day. He spent extra time sharing details about each location as well as areas we drove through and about the country generally. I highly recommend this tour.
Very nice. The caves are beautiful! the guide very attentive and friendly. He took us several places in a private van. The food is also very good. Everything we liked!
Great experience. My driver was exceptional and really informative. The cave of wonders was beautiful - so magical. Romona - only lunch but a nice setting over looking the river. Quite basic but did the trick. Chavon - a lovely setting up in the hills, the old stone buildings and amphitheatre were great to see. Marina - my driver did not know this was included so do not expect this on your trip as I did. However, he was super kind and took me anyway and we saw the lovely beach and the boats of the marina - and I treated him to some ice cream which we enjoyed whilst taking in the view.
Our guide Oskari was great, switched the itenary to complete outdoor walking in morning before the heat of the day. Loved the trip overall, Altos de Chavón was amazing, then the secret caves and the iguanas.
I feel I went on a different experience to others who wrote reviews, but the last one was almost a year ago and maybe it's changed (my driver/guide was Abraham, not Alex). Reality didn't match the "What to expect" tab. The cave was definitely worth seeing - very photographable - but I didn't see horses (probably because I said I didn't want to ride) or a labyrinth. Lunch was exceptionally poor, in an over-hot and very empty restaurant. Altos de Chavon is a tourist trap - there's no "indigenous village", it's a fake vaguely Italianate 'village' (if a village is mostly restaurants and no houses) built for tourists and weddings, with no locals in sight. The best thing was the archaeological museum, which my guide hurried past but fortunately I spotted behind a restaurant - exhibits are mainly on the Taíno and other peoples there before the Spanish invaded, which I found really interesting. The amber/larimar museum is small but worth seeing, and the view over the river is nice. I wasn't taken to a marina for "leisure time", so maybe you have to ask? Bottled water wasn't included, contrary to the inclusions list. The day felt very expensive for what it was, especially with the mark-up for solos.
Cave with stalagmites is interesting, also outside the cave there is an area with iguanas where can be seen
our tour guide Alex was super friendly, helpful, and informative. we will invite him to our housewarming when we win the lottery and buy a home in Altos de Chavon
The tour was canceled last minute with a reason that it “oversold” and now my request for refund is pending review. This tour should not have been available since Altos de Chevon is now closed to the public. You can only visit if you’re staying at the hotel. The tour was supposed to be for today at 9am. I got the cancellation notice at 10:22pm last night. Then a reminder email came at 3:01am to say “Your adventure starts today”. It was a confusing experience. I tried using WhatsApp to get a refund. The wait for the first time was over 3 hours, and it was about 2 hours for my second attempt. The person helped me to submit a request to get refund, and it’s currently pending review. Here are my suggestions: 1. Take the tour off if the Altos de Chavon is no longer open to public (the staff there says they’ve been closed to public for 2 months). 2. Don’t email a reminder if the tour is canceled. It’s confusing. 3. Offer a refund right away if the tour is cancelled. Do the right thing and not make it hard for the customer to chase the refund when the tour operator cancelled. 4. Set a reasonable expectation for WhatsApp response time. It’s not reasonable to expect people to wait around for 2-3 hours to get a response. Thank you.
Abraham was our guide and it was amazing. The place is truly wonderful, and Abraham made it even better.
