EN 1999; L'île de Robben a été inscrite sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. L'île de Robben est située à 12 kilomètres au large de la ville du Cap, en Afrique du Sud. Pendant des décennies, elle a abrité une prison à sécurité maximale où les prisonniers politiques, père de la Démocratie et d'autres, étaient incarcérés pendant le système d'apartheid.
En mai 1913, le gouvernement réserva l'État de Kirstenbosh à la création du jardin botanique national de Kirstenbosh et accepta de contribuer à hauteur de 1 000 opéras annuels. la société botanique fut créée le 10 juin 1913 et tint son assemblée générale le 31 juillet 1913.
EN 1685, lors d'une visite annuelle au cap, Hendrik Adriaan Van Rheede à Drakenstein, concéda les terres de Groot Constantia à Simon Van der Stel, premier gouverneur du cap de Bonne-Espérance. van der Stel a construit la maison et a utilisé le terrain pour produire du vin ainsi que d'autres plantes fruitières et pour l'élevage de bétail.
