David was so nice and knowledgeable about the history and development of Sydney’s food and fish market! I would 100% recommend!
We did this tour on our first full day in Sydney, and it was the perfect way to start our time in Sydney. David was so knowledgeable about Australian food, and took us to neighborhoods we wouldn’t have explored on our own. Highly recommend this tour.
Great food and drink. Very interesting tour. Avid was very knowledgeable about the fish markets and the food we were eating. Enjoyed the Red Rum Mill tastings
My partner and I did the 'Native Australian Food, Oysters, Distillery & Coffee Tour' with my mum-in-law — and just wow. We started at the Sydney Fish Markets, which was super easy to get to by tram (it drops you right at the door). We met David and kicked things off with the freshest Sydney Rock oysters, paired with white wine from a local Indigenous producer — honestly the best white wine I’ve ever had. There was a beautiful sauce, and some native finger limes to sprinkle over the oysters, even dried native fruits added to the wine and salt bush flavour for our sparkling water. David then pulled out a couple of native food hampers, and they blew us all away. I’ve tried to find authentic bush foods before and it’s near impossible — this was packed with Aussie goodness: dried mango, fresh passionfruit, kangaroo and truffle pork salami, and an award-winning eucalyptus-smoked cheddar. Everyone went back for seconds of the saltbush za’atar pita and the lemon myrtle scones, which were clearly made with love. The olives and Davidson plum jam was my personal favourite. My partner’s pick was the wattleseed damper (if I remember correctly!). We left the markets completely full with of incredible food and wine and headed to a rum distillery. I knew nothing about rum going in, and left feeling like an expert. They put a spin on traditional rum — we got to sample a few styles, and the coffee and coconut were my favs. With an extra buzz from the rum tasting, we pulled up to the most charming little cafe — a total hidden gem. Terrance was the heart of it. He and his dad built the place from scratch, and it showed in every detail. They roast their own beans and make their own creamy chocolate — both next-level. Terrance walked us through what makes a proper Aussie coffee, from bean to pour. We tried matcha, iced coffee, cappuccino, latte, turmeric latte, and a spread of sweets and local honey. Top picks? The iced coffee, the brownie, and definitely the Bilpin honey. Honestly, we didn’t want to leave — Terrance made it feel like home. What made this tour so good wasn’t just the food — though that was incredible — it was the way the whole thing came together. Every place we visited had a story, every bite had meaning, and nothing felt rushed or random. David tied it all together. He’s the kind of guide who makes you feel welcome straight away, but also knows his stuff inside out. His love for native Australian ingredients is contagious. By the end, we all felt like old friends, leaving in the best mood. What an unforgettable day - thank you David!
My partner and I did the Native 'Australian Food, Oysters, Distillery & Coffee Tour' and just wow. This tour is perfectly crafted to show off Australia's native foods in the best way possible. We got to try the freshest Sydney Rock oysters with white wine from a local indigenous producer — honestly the best white wine I've ever had. The native food hamper blew me away, especially since I've tried to find authentic Australian bush tucker before and it's basically impossible. We had kangaroo salami, finger limes, Davidson plum, lemon myrtle, saltbush, and these amazing damper and scones that were clearly made with extra love. Omgosh just thinking about it makes me want to do this tour again. Everything about this tour was so well thought out. From the Sydney Fish Market visit to seeing coffee being roasted and learning how chocolate is made. Each food and location felt like it was chosen for a reason, making the whole day flow perfectly. David's energy and knowledge really made the experience though. His passion for Australia and Australian food made the whole day into something really special. By the end, we all felt like we'd become close friends. We left on such a high. If you want a real Australian food experience, you have to try The Australian Food Guy. Amazing.
