For weeks before our trip, I was looking all over Tripadvisor for a one-day trip to Cairo from Hurghada by plane, to see Giza and the museum (only). However, all of the reviews I could find were from other people who complained about guides who would spend very little time at the pyramids/museum but then rush them to the bazaar, where they complained about being encouraged to buy souvenirs. This was not what we wanted, and we wanted a historical tour on just Giza and the museum. So I’m very pleased to say that we found exactly what we wanted (and more) with Gouda. He was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Cairo. The whole drive from the airport to the pyramids, he was teaching us the stories of ancient Egypt and was very engaging with his communication. Three days before our arrival in Egypt, we had excellent confirmations via WhatsApp regarding all of our flight and transfers, and the night before our flight, Gouda contacted us to confirm where he would meet us at the airport. Gouda went out his way to make sure we got the maximum out of the tour. By arranging us to be at the pyramids by 08:30, when there would be less people. He also knew the best photo opportunity spots and was happy to tweak the tour around what was important to us. His wealth of knowledge was excellent and we learned so much from him. Once we had finished at the pyramids and Sphinx, he asked us what would be more important for our lunch, if we wanted an expensive restaurant with a view of Giza, or if we wanted a more local restaurant with great food. We went with the second choice and had one of the best chicken shawarma we’ve ever had, with the cost for 2 people being around £10 (GBP) in total! With the extra time we saved by being early at the pyramids. He offered an optional stop at a papyrus and oil shop, there was no obligation to buy anything and the shop owners were not at all pushy with selling either. We were given free drinks and a relaxing explanation of how papyrus is made and how perfume and oils were created. Some users on trustpilot complained about other tour companies forcing them to visit these places and spending over an hour waiting to leave. With Gouda, he made it clear that this stop was optional, he explained that we didn’t have to buy anything or feel pressured; and he also took us here as they offered the cleanest toilets for free (which can’t be said at the pyramids themselves!). As soon as we were no longer interested, we had to signal to Gouda and he instantly took us back to the car without any pushy selling. Because of this, these visits were a pleasant surprise and interesting. At the museum, Gouda was in his element. He clearly was an expert and knew where the best exhibitions were. He took us around the key parts of the museum first and then gave us our own free time to explore while he waited by the exit before taking us back to the airport. I cannot recommend this trip enough.
