Description

Great tour

I joined this January evening tour hosted by the charismatic Runar (hope that's a correct spelling) . He has a friendly manner and gives lots of information without being overbearing. We covered quite a lot of history and he is open to questions. The food was very good, the restaurant at the botanical gardens was excellent. I don't want to provide details on this as I think there should be a surprise element to it plus I expect dishes will change . The visit to Brynja ice cream shop is a treat.

Fantastic food tour and guide!

Great food tour with an amazing local guide, Kari Por! We ate Icelandic hot dogs, ice cream, and a delicious lamb stew. However, what made this tour so special was Kari’s energy, humor, and openness in sharing his personal insights and stories. It really made the tour so much more than good food and a history of buildings. If you just Yelp places to eat and walk around town by yourself, you will miss the history, context, and personal stories that makes a food tour with a local guide like Kari so special. Thank you Saga Travel and Kari!

Great chance to try a few food items & learn about the city

Kari was our tour guide and we had so much fun! The trip during lunchtime takes you to eat lamb soup but the trip in the evening takes you to eat seafood soup. We took this trip in the evening and thought the soup was fantastic. We had a local hotdog and local ice cream.. we also had a chance to try some other local delicacies that he brought along with him. It was a very nice evening of walking around, although there was more walking than we had anticipated we got to see other parts of the town and learn a lot about the culture of the city.

The Best Food & Walking Tour We’ve Ever Done!

From start to finish, our walking/food tour with Kari was absolutely phenomenal. We’ve taken many tours like this all over the world, but Kari was hands-down the best guide we’ve ever had! His passion for the city’s history, combined with his incredible storytelling, made every stop come alive. The food was equally amazing—each bite felt like a piece of the culture and history we were exploring. Kari had the perfect balance of knowledge, humor, and warmth, and made the experience unforgettable. If you’re considering booking, don’t hesitate—this tour is worth every penny!

Excellent tour guide, Fonn! Thank you!

Our tour guide, Fonn, was amazing and knew everything about the city since she was born & raised there. We were given all kinds of information about Akureyri & felt like we had the experience we were looking for. All the food options that we were given were excellent and a nice tour of the old part of Akureyri with history. Weather was also very nice for the walking tour, which made it even more pleasant.

Fab walking tour with food stops

Had a wonderful time exploring Akuyeri with our local guide Jon who spoke perfect English. Had a few stops along the way to try food. Note the meeting spot is in the Europcar parking lot. Look for the the guides that say Saga Travel.

Feast in the fjords

Our guide was the absolute best. We were able to eat 3 delicious Icelandic foods while walking through the streets of Akureyri. Couldn’t have asked for a better day and experience..
