We had an amazing morning hiking La India Dormida with Carlos. He picked us up at hotel on time and drove us to starting point just outside town. Really a great day. Carlos is a super chill guy who taught us so much about the area. Excellent local guide who has literally done this hike hundreds of times maybe more. We went up backside and ended hike with waterfalls and petroglyphs rocks which he told us about. So happy we went with Carlos rather than hiking by ourselves as we may have got lost and also wouldn't have known to significance of many sites along the way.
The guide, Carlos, is very connoisseur of the nature and wildlife of Panama and he is especially very friendly. We can choose our route once we get there. We chose cerro gaital. Beautiful course of medium difficulty. We saw colorful birds, flowers, a Jurassic park-like cegetation, original insects (we saw a huge centipede and bees from Panama) and sloths. A sloth even fell from a tree and ended up on our backs, at our feet, the poor man. It was, however, an unforgettable sight. He slowly rose to the nearest tree (once he had recovered from his emotions ☺️). The hike is 10km. At the top, a breathtaking view of a small town and the head of the cloud-capped mountains. No danger to snakes if we stay on the trail. Have good dark shoes. There's mud sometimes. Hiking with a guide teaches us a lot about everything that touches nature. Really nice!!!
Carlos took us to hike La India Dominga in a three hour down pour. He guided us through the trail while sharing history and pointing out interesting nature. He kept us positive and safe.
When we booked, we were assured that the tour would be led by an English-speaking guide. Unfortunately, our guide appeared to have only a very limited command of English—perhaps 10–20%—which made communication quite difficult. As a result, we were often unable to fully understand the historical context, explanations, and details of what we were seeing and experiencing. This was disappointing, as the guide’s narration and interaction are such an important part of appreciating the tour. While we understand that language proficiency can vary, the gap between what was promised and what was delivered had a meaningful impact on our experience. The hike is beautiful and challenging (we did India Dormida) - highly recommend the hike and as long as you are assured an English speaking guide, this company is good.
Thanks for your feedback. Our guides are qualified local tour guides that are working hard to dominate a second language. While is not easy to fulfill everyone's expectations, we make sure everyone get to have a wonderful experience. Here in Panama we also expect that our visitors get to understand a bit of Spanish as well as we are working on talking other languages to the right level. We are working on developing local community tourism, where the experience you receive 100% provided by local people.
Very nice route, very good guide that answers all our doubts. It suits your needs. 100% recommended
The hike with Carlos was fantastic. We hiked up to the Mirador Cerro el Gaital. Carlos is extremely knowledgeable about the area and the local nature, and you can truly feel his passion for the flora and fauna. It was wonderful to hike and chat with him. I even got to see a sloth, many birds, ants, native bees, and beautiful plants. Thank you so much!
Cerro Gaital is one of the most challenging and spectacular hikes in the Antón Valley. Its steep ascent offers breathtaking views and a unique connection to nature. For a safe and enriching experience, Carlos, a local guide, is the best choice. Its knowledge of the trail and biodiversity make the route even more fascinating. Tip: Wear hiking shoes, water and start early. The top is worth it!
Hiked the India Dormida Trail. Our guide Carlos gave our group several options on what we wanted to experience. The trail was a little challenging but a great experience. Carlos was very knowledgeable about the area and the environment. He pointed out interesting things along the trail which added to the experience. Since it was our first time in the area we were glad that we took this tour with a guide since it would have been more of a challenge trying to navigate it ourselves.
Carlos is a great guide, knowledgable about the local area and practices, as well as passionate about the environment and el Valle Anton. He offered us different walking options based on our preferences, and took us to some of the lesser walked areas in addition to popular viewpoints and tracks. It's a great experience and I'd recommend to anyone travelling to the area.
Excellent experience! Very complete hike. Both for enjoy the physical challenge and to get to know El Valle’s history. Recommended for anyone who loves nature, exercise, and being outdoors.
