Itinéraire
Après environ une heure et demie de route (la durée dépend de l'emplacement de votre hôtel). Au cours de cette première partie, je vais vous parler de la succession d'événements qui a conduit à l'occupation de la France par les nazis en 1940. Nous aborderons ensuite les opérations de planification et de préparation du débarquement du 6 juin 1944, avant de nous intéresser aux exploits des 225 hommes du deuxième bataillon de rangers du colonel Rudder.
Nous ferons une halte au cœur d'Omaha Beach, à Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, où vous pourrez prendre quelques photos et où je vous proposerai quelques restaurants pour que vous puissiez déjeuner rapidement avant de nous diriger vers notre prochaine étape.
Le cimetière américain de Colleville-sur-Mer est le site le plus visité parmi les plages du débarquement. Nous ferons une halte, si vous le souhaitez, pour visionner un court métrage rendant hommage à certains soldats tombés au combat lors de la bataille de Normandie. On pourra également visiter un petit musée commémoratif à cet endroit. Nous marcherons ensuite avec respect parmi les 9 387 tombes des héros qui ont donné leur vie pour libérer l'Europe.
À Longues-sur-Mer, nous pouvons nous arrêter pour découvrir les casemates qui abritent encore les canons de 155 mm faisant partie du célèbre Mur de l'Atlantique, érigé en Europe par les nazis à partir de 1942.
Nous ferons une halte à Arromanches-les-Bains pour découvrir les vestiges du port artificiel construit par les Alliés dès les premiers jours du débarquement. Je vais à nouveau vous expliquer la conception et la mise en place de ce site gigantesque, indispensable à l'approvisionnement de l'armée alliée.
Si vous le souhaitez, nous retournerons à votre hôtel en longeant les plages du débarquement jusqu'au secteur est du front d'assaut, ce qui nous permettra de traverser le pont de Benouville, rebaptisé « pont Pegasus » en l'honneur d'un commando de la 6e division aéroportée britannique qui s'en est emparé héroïquement dans la nuit du 5 au 6 juin 1944. Nous retournerons ensuite à votre hôtel.

Gilles is a very knowledgeable and professional tour guide, that we highly recommend for tours of the Le Havre and Normandy area. His knowledge of the World Wars is outstanding, and he shared information in a very easily understood way. Our party of six was unanimous in our appreciation for a tour well done. His English was excellent, his car was first class, and he was onetime and delivered the tour just as promised. We've enjoyed several excellent private tours but this tour was by far one of the best.

Gilles and his team were absolutely amazing!!!! We had 8 people total and two very comfortable, clean, well stocked cars (food and beverages), that made our trip from the cruise port to Normandy very relaxing. Along the way, Gilles told us about the history leading up to the Normandy invasion which was so very informative, even as a HS History teacher myself! The other car was able to hear all the info as well due to his communication set up…it was wonderful!!! We stopped at the Point du Hoc first and received his guided tour along the way! After that, he arranged lunch for our group that was super delicious! Next stop was Omaha Beach, then the cemetery, the Mulberry Harbors and the Atlantic Wall, finishing off with the gun emplacements!!!! It was absolutely an amazing day!!!! I can’t tell you how highly I recommend this tour!!!! All 8 people in our group agreed that this was their favorite tour on our 2 week British Isle cruise!!!

Gilles is amazing. What a great person! Our train trip to Caen had an unexpected incident on the track which caused us to have to go back to LeHavre. He drove there and picked us up. He brought croissant for the whole family. He had a smile on his face and truly enjoyed the day with us. Very accommodating, very friendly. I would not tour with anyone else after this! Trusted with my whole family including a 10 year old and he did not disappoint! Cannot say enough nice things about the tour and how informative and fun it was. I got to go inside a German Gun emplacement and stand on the actual beach where it happened and look toward the shore. Bucket list items get checked off here. Life changing! Merci Gilles!
