Be prepared to be absolutely mindblown at the history you’ll learn about Belfast. We grew up during the time of Troubles, but weren’t aware of so many details. It’s luck of the draw with who you get as your driver. We had the incredible luck of getting Joseph, whose brother is the artist that painted so many of the murals you’ll see, so he had an interesting perspective. He was great! My husband said this was one of the best experiences we’ve ever done.
Our tour with driver Joseph was incredible. He gave such a comprehensive and heartfelt history of the area, highlighting both its troubles and its recent victories. Coming into this not knowing much about the troubles in Belfast, it was really illuminating to learn so much about what went on and how people dealt with the conflict on both sides. Thank you so much Joseph for sharing the history of this city and your own personal story as well. It was truly a gift.
This is a great way to see around some of the 'trouble' spots in Belfast. Joseph, our guide, was first class. So informative, passionate and funny. We wanted our son and partner, not born in the North, to learn a bit about the past we had grown up in. It was such an interesting thing to do, really worth while. We only had one day in Belfast and managed, luckily, to get the tour booked on the morning we were there. We lucked out with our guide too. Thoroughly recommend this tour. The murals are a sight to behold.
We took this tour in August and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. One of the things we really appreciated was the flexibility. We were picked up at a location of our choosing, and we could also tell the guide exactly where we wanted to be dropped off at the end. That made the whole day feel relaxed and completely tailored to us. The car was spacious and extremely comfortable, which made travelling between the different stops a pleasure rather than a chore. Our guide was excellent. He explained a great deal in detail about Belfast and the conflict in Northern Ireland, giving us a deep and quite surprising insight into both the history and the present day reality of the region. What really set this tour apart was how authentic it felt. Instead of glossing over the past, it genuinely showed how the conflict is still ongoing and how people continue to live with it today. You come away with a much richer understanding of this troubled but fascinating country. If you're in Belfast, this is something you really shouldn't miss. Highly recommended.
This was a very neat experience and really enjoyed hearing from our local Guide/Driver Paul all of his knowledge from growing up in Belfast.
We had an amazing tour with Paul and left with a much better understanding of the struggle that is happening in northern Ireland. This struggle is for both a United Ireland and the ongoing challenges between Unionist and Nationalist parties. From the fences and gates that separate the communities to the murals that depict the struggles and loss of life for both sides, Paul provided a firsthand account of the history and ongoing impact. We did the 90 minute tour and that may not have been enough time. However, our guides made sure that we saw and learned a tremendous amount. The company makes pick up and drop off very simple and convenient within the city. It is a very thought-provoking tour and certainly created a lot of discussion within our group afterwards!
Great experience with our guide Paul, who made the history of Belfast during the Troubles come alive. Recommend 100%!
Brilliant tour, lasting one hour. Fascinating and memorable experience, and essential to learn more about the political situation of The Troubles, including the preceding events that led to those years.
Paul was phenomenal! He is very passionate about sharing the history of the Troubles with others. He was incredibly informative and shared personal experiences that made the tour even more memorable. He was also very kind and friendly. We learned so many things that aren’t taught in our world history classes back home, and Paul did such a great job explaining the history and putting everything into perspective. He even shared several books and videos that we can watch to learn more. While it is a very heavy history lesson, it was incredibly interesting and meaningful to learn about. I was so excited to share everything I learned with my brothers when I got home. I would highly recommend this tour!
Thoroughly enjoyable. Being of Irish Catholic ancestry and a bit of an amateur history buff, this trip offerred a fascinating insight into the period known as The Troubles. memorable tour of the "hotspots" of the Troubles and the associated gable-end murals. Tour guide (Paul McAllister) was fantastic - shared his own memories of the times while being respectful to the other tradition in the city. I cannot thank him enough! Thoroughly recommend this tour.
