Great, knowledgeable guide. Sit on tops are good quality, stable and totally suitable. Drysuit, boots, BAs provided so will be kept dry and warm. You do need base layers when you use a drysuit. The fjord is spectacular. Mountains on 2 sides and one end are gob smackingly awesome. The other end is open sea. It is a bigger body of water than it looks so you use up your time enjoying and learning lots about the landscape, nature, envirnment and history of Iceland's most northern town. Seeing it in a kayak from the other side of the fyjord reveals it's location and size and isolation. The weather can change quickly- as is the nature of Iceland - but the guide ensures you are safe. You do the trip you want, that you are comfortable with, and if you change you mind that is accommodated.
We did the private kayak with Tom and it was great! We looked at the ruins of the old herring factory, the shipwreck, also Tom talked about the local history and wildlife. Tom knows a lot about the area and made this experience fantastic. Highly recommend!
Hi Sarah, Kind words are much appreciated, you guys are welcome back anytime :) Takk, Tom
Our family of 6 did this private kayak tour and had the best time. Tom is super knowledgeable about the history and dates and an AMAZING story teller. We are here on family vacation around Iceland and learned more about the culture of Iceland in the hour and half than we did the whole trip. This was an excellent experience - we even saw a seal and seal pup and jelly fish. Beautiful views all around. We could have spent the whole day on the water with tom!
Hello again :) Many thanks for the 5* review. Some days on the water are definitely easier than others and the good weather with good company of yesterday was definitely a favourite. Welcome back with the family anytime. Takk, Tom
We were looking for a reason to travel off the Ring Road and head north and this was the perfect excursion. Laken was great and shared a little history about the area. We felt like it was a little shorter than we were expecting for a private tour, but a storm was coming and they had another group after ours to accommodate. The ride up to Siglufjörður was almost as much fun as the kayaking - not for the faint of heart along the hair pin turns on narrow mountain roads.
Hi Kimberly! It was a pleasure guiding your family and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels. Thank you for choosing to spend your time with us and sorry about the turn in weather! Many thanks Laken
Truly magical experience! Kayaking across the fjord, learning the history of Siglufjörður, and spotting local wildlife were just some of the highlights. Highly recommend this activity - it was well worth the drive.
Thank so much Angus! It was an absolute pleasure to guide your wonderful family. We hope you enjoy the rest of your trip! Laken
The Siglo Sea kayak tour was a great experience for us. Hilmar was an excellent guide and very helpful. Siglufjordur is a stunning place that is worth visiting. Thanks for a wonderful day :)
Hi, I'll pass on your review to Hilmar. Glad we could make this happen even with winter on the horizon :) Takk, Tom
Our family of 6 (teens ages 15-19) had a great time kayaking with Laken. All of the equipment was of good quality--the kayaks, warm fleece onesie for under the dry suit, dry suit "socks", boots, gloves, life jackets. We were totally comfortable. We kayaked a little around the harbor then across the fjord to the ruins of a factory destroyed by an avalanche, where we briefly climbed onto shore to learn more, and Laken also had us try several edible plants she located there. We learned about the history of the area, the marine ecology, waterfowl and more. Total tour was just over 2 hours including time to get the equipment on, so about 1.5 hours on the water. Laken was patient, informative, and prioritized safety and a good trip. We were really excited to get to kayak this far north! Tom managed the communication from my first outreach through our arrival day communications and was very prompt and helpful throughout. He was able to create a custom time slot for our family based on our arrival time in the area, provided us with direct communication to Laken in case we were running late, and overall just made it a very easy and convenient process to arrange the tour. Thank you both!
Thank you very much for the excellent review. We're always trying to make the process as smooth and enjoyable for people as possible and that takes a little flexibility. I'm glad you guys had a great time and would say you're always welcome back any time. Takk fyrir, Tom
Great experience to get out on the fjord on a kayak, stunning views and the staff are super professional and overall nice.
The solid review is much appreciated, quality is always our focus. Takk, Tom
What a great experience. We can’t say enough about Tom, his communication, his management of our rainy trip and the relationships he has developed w/ the local community. We had an incredible experience. Despite the weather we enjoyed our paddling around the harbor in Siglo. We had no issues w/ the gear and were provided w/ both a warm fleece, gloves and an outer dry suit that kept us warm and dry. We stopped at a local cafe on the way back with limitless fish soup and local bread which everyone loved and ate until we were bursting. We had no issues whatsoever and would recommend this trip without any reservations. Thanks Tom and hopefully we will have the opportunity to return in the future.
Oh yeah the Gisli Eirikur Helgi cafe is brilliant, crazily popular with the skiers in Spring. If you´re ever back this way there´s a café in Olafsfjordur that just had a total renovation and the coffee/cakes are delicious. Takk, Tom
It was really fun to go on kayak tour in Siglufjörður and see the town from different angle. And get to know the story of the town. And The kids loved to float and play in the sea. Thanks Tom & Laken for your hospitaity. We will definitely go with you on a another tour next time we come to town.
Hi Atli, Thankyou for the 5* review, it is much appreciated. We´re glad you and the kids had a great time, we´re lucky to have a town with such a rich history to talk about. Takk, Tom
