Highly recommend this experience! From learning the history of soba in Japan, to the hands on making of the noodles itself and having the actual soba noodles prepared to eat, it was an awesome experience.
We went to the soba workshop with our 2 teenagers and we had a great time together! Its a cozy soba lunch place, where Tako explains and let you experience the making of soba noodles. After that he prepares the tasting, it was very delicious. The corn tempura he made for us was extra and was so yummy we asked for more which he kindly prepared for us and did not charge for it. Overall a great experience and fun thing to do with a small group.
Excellent experience for the whole family! Taku and his wife are the epitome of Japanese hospitality. Located about 20 minutes away from Sapporo Station by Taxi. We used the Go Taxi App. 1 hour includes history of soba, mixing soba flour and water by hand, rolling, and cutting by hand. The noodles are delicious and chewy. The soba sauce and soup are equally delicious. You can add on tempura if you’d like. Highly recommend this experience for the whole family.
Really fun experience! We had young children and Taku was super patient when guiding them, even with the big soba knife. The best part, tasting the delicious soba with the soba noodle water. Will highly recommend this!
Awesome experience in making soba! The staff was incredibly supportive, knowledgeable, and friendly!
This experience is SO COOL! We booked this on a whim and ended up being one of our favorite experiences in Sapporo. Taku and Mai were such lovely hosts. You get to make the soba, and then learn the proper way to enjoy it, along with some sake afterwards! Definitely a must if you enjoy the food and culture of Hokkaido.
We booked this soba workshop because we wanted to learn how to do soba on your own. We learned several mixing and rolling steps to make and smoothens the soba dough. It reminded us a bit like rolling out a pasta dough. Then we cut the soba noodles. Taka was a nice teacher. He first gave some insights to soba and then he cooked the soba noodles that we made. We could enjoy our own hand made soba noodles at the end of the workshop. We enjoyed it!
Awesome experience! Taku taught us about the culture of soba in Hokkaido and the region north of Tokyo. About the golden ratio between Hokkaido Buckwheat flour, Hokkaido flour to water mix. How to mix it properly, shape and roll it properly and the technique of consistent cutting. And then eating the sobe was a whole other experience in itself. We're very glad that we decided to book this class and highly recommend it.
This was a great time! The restaurant is just a short walk from the train station, so it is easy to reach. Get ready for a workout! Anybody that has worked in a kitchen for even a little while knows that working dough is tough to do. Taku-san took his time to explain the differences between the soba that they serve and the soba found elsewhere, and he patiently demonstrates the techniques used to create delicious soba. I would definitely recommend this to anybody traveling to Sapporo!
We really wanted to like this more but it was way overpriced for what was delivered. Should have been less than half the price. Taku was very nice but for an experience that was supposed to be in English his was very limited and couldn’t answer most of my questions because of his limited vocabulary. Unfortunately this was our first experience in japan where we felt ripped off.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. I am sorry that this experience did not meet your expectations regarding value and communication. This soba-making experience was originally created for Japanese guests. In Japan, many people enjoy eating soba but have never made it themselves, as soba making is traditionally considered a craftsman’s task, often done in a closed workspace. While soba schools exist, they usually require attending on fixed dates and are not designed for casual participation. In response to requests from local guests who wanted to try soba making more casually, we developed this hands-on experience at our authentic soba restaurant. Later, at the request of travel agencies, we began welcoming international guests as well. The experience follows a long-established structure refined over many years, using demonstrations and a standard explanation to guide participants through the traditional process of making 100% buckwheat soba. Regarding English communication, I sincerely apologize that my English ability was not sufficient to answer all of your questions in detail. While the experience is conducted with simple English explanations and visual demonstrations, I understand that this may not meet every guest’s expectations, and I take your feedback seriously. Thank you for your comment about our hospitality. Your feedback is appreciated and will help us continue improving our experience for future guest
