Walter was extremely responsive before the tour. He also provided some suggestions on various Vienna matters before we arrived. He was timely meeting us at the hotel and very personable and, of course, very knowledgeable about all things Vienna. Overall we had an excellent experience with him.
Our guide was a local and very knowledgeable about the key sites - he showed us his version of Vienna with historical facts and key hot spots. He was very passionate with the local areas and stories. He highlighted the best restaurants, cafes and where we should spend our time.
So Shamlis, What was missing?
Lovely tour, very knowledgable and we saw lots of hidden gems off the beaten track and we felt privileged to find them with Brigitte
On our first trip to Vienna, we wanted a guide to introduce us to the city. Having followed this guide on social media and appreciated his helpful posts, we thought he would be most helpful. I mistakenly signed up for the wrong tour but was told the tour could incorporate whatever we wanted. I expressed that we wanted the initial introductory tour in writing. Also that stairs and long walking was very difficult for us. The day of the tour we were a little disorganized, having arrived the day before and rested. The hotel lobby was busy and my friends accompanying us were late. I was not clear and did not remind the guide of my previous request. And so the tour was the one originally booked not the change we requested. The pace of the walking was too fast for myself and our group. We wanted to linger in a church and sit for a bit but the guide hurried us along. Finally we reached St. Stephens and our guide told us to meet him in a cafe down the street when we were done, after a short time. We did not have time to enter the main part of the cathedral or to spend much time there. The cafe was really a saloon where our guide was having a beer and we were invited to have water and use the restrooms, which were all down stairs. With some difficulty we managed to do so. As the tour resumed the guide was clearly irritated with our slower pace and need to rest. We let him know we were not able to complete the tour and he left pointing in the general direction of the subway. We had not yet had an experience using the subway nor signed up for any transit options. We eventually found it and found our way back to the hotel totally exhausted for the better part of the day. This was a disappointing experience for me and my partner and friends as well as a waste of euros. While we appreciated his knowledge, he was not really helpful to us or sensitive to our needs. Just be very clear about which tour you want and you will have a better experience than we did.
Hello Amy, Thank you for your detailed feedback. I was your guide and remember the tour well (Tue, Sep 30, 2025). I’m sorry for the obvious mismatch – but thank you for sharing the experience to help future guests in planning a tour with our team here in Vienna. Due to the exceptional limitation of your mobility, a walking tour of any kind was the wrong choice, I concede. Although we make our fitness requirement clear in our tour description and only very rarely get misinterpreted – it happened with this tour. Even by shortening as we went and putting in an “emergency break” you requested an abrupt tour end just at the beginning of the Hofburg palace area, which traditionally is the highlight of the tour. You then stated that you will find your way back and there were taxis available too. Yes, our walking tours are themed for 3 hours (there are shorter ones available by other operators.) – and an average of 8.000 steps. Hope you had more pleasant travel experiences with the rest of your tour.
Walter was a great tour guide. Showed us interesting and wonderful parts of his city! We loved our private tour!
Thanks Leslie, Glad our short notice arrangement worked out and we could cover things you didn’t visit earlier. Thanks also for an interesting conversation about “the world”. Happy Travels
Highly informative and interesting, Walter showed us some of the wonderful sights slightly away from the obvious tourist route. We had a couple of restaurant recommendations from him, which were great. We also noted a few places to go back to , like the cat cafe for the crazy cat woman in my life. 3 hours went very quickly, discussing the different architectural styles, the influences of successive occupiers of the city, the history and also a view of current world events through the Austrian perspective Very glad we booked, happy to recommend
Thank you, Philip, and the “cat woman” for you positive feedback! Your “base in Vienna” always was interesting but recently improved tremendously – it was fun to re-discover it with you. Thanks also for your interest and openness in discussing contemporary viewpoints.
We had a great time. The tour guide was really informative and funny and really tailored the tour to our interests
Thank you, Nellie! Glad you liked our morning walk and for your interest in the different layers of our cities history and presence.
We had a great 3 hours with Walter - he’s extremely knowledgeable regarding the history and culture of Vienna and answered all our questions - there were a LOT of questions :) He was also extremely flexible in organizing our walk and the sights around our requests. He was a great guide!
Thanks Tricia! With your clear preview of expectations it was a pleasure to find a route avoiding crowds most of the time. After travelling the world a bit, I returned to my hometown Vienna and love to present her ever since – only drawback, she does not age, I do. Looks like you picked the perfect week for your cruise on the mighty Danube. Happy Travels!
We had toured several areas of Vienna and Walter made sure that we saw venues and learned about locations that were not on other tours. “The hidden secret gems” ! Walter is super knowledgeable on All of Vienna. Highly recommended!
Thank you, Traci! You invested some extra time in exploring Vienna. It therefore was a pleasure to share your genuine interest in our city. Glad you liked the package! Happy Travels
OMG Walter was just a water hose of information and history of Vienna (Wien). Incredible guide, great nature, it was all 2nd hand to him. I wish it had been a 6 hour tour. Too much to see and so much to learn. Walter took me to place really very few people know about or go to. Ask for Walter if you are Vienna.
Thank you for your “enthusiastic” feed-back. Feels like this is the way you travel – which was inspiring to me too. “Hidden Gems” is our most flexible tour meant for guests that have previously visited or are able to spend more time in Vienna. The more our guests share with us, the more we can add to the experience. Happy Travels
