It was quite an interesting journey up seeing the sights, I was lucky to be at the back of the funicular so I had an amazing view
We took the funicular to reach the top of the hill where we finally had a bit of freshness. The hill offers a wide panorama of the city of Georgetown and the island of Penang. At the top, there is food available and a chance to enjoy the view. The ascent is made by a steep train that is quite impressive. But it’s great!

Penang Hill is at an altitude of about 800 m. On top of the hill the temperature is agreable making the walk quite comfortable. The funicular tickets can be bought at the ticket counter, cost 21 MYR per pax. This is the longest funicular in Asia and it takes about 15 minutes to reach the top. It ascends almost vertically at the start before turning abruptly to the right. The views are spectular. Once on top,one can wander around taking in the views. After passing a few shops you reach The Habitat. A natural reserve (UNESCO) with an impressive rich flora and fauna. Walking the canopy walk was great,we were very lucky to see a giant squirrel on a tree searching for fruits and several leaf monkeys. Also on top you can find a nice little restaurant attached to the gift shop,a mosque and a Hindu temple . A great experience.

I paid for the fast lane online and so glad I did! It saved a lot of waiting, and also managed the best seat on the ride up and down the hill! There was no one on the fast lane on the way up, and only a couple of us on the way down...the regular queue was like waiting to check in at the airport!
It costs 40 RM for non Malaysians to go up and down the funicular (with several mid way stops). There are small garden grounds up on top the hill. We didn't pay to go to the Habitat. There is a restaurant on the hill. The price is a bit steep, considering Malaysians pay only 6 RM, but it is what it is. It must also cost quite a bit to operate this thing - it goes so fast your ears would pop. The funicular could have some cleaner windows. It was not terribly crowded, but we went at 7:15 am. The hill is covered with fog and clouds on some days, so check the weather

We took the funicular that climbs very fast for a craft of this type and on a slope of 28 degrees. Arriving at the top there is a view of the whole city and finally we breathe a little. At the top of souvenir kiosks, bars and a Luna Park for children.

A beautiful place to discover. A funicular ride that takes us from urban life to nature. The park is very well maintained. We could observe monkeys in the wild

Very disappointing experience at Penang Hill. Visited on 13/04/26 around noon. I stopped by a lizard pop-up booth (bearded dragon) near the food stall area and politely asked a “customer service” staff (Malaysian Indian man) where I could see monkeys or squirrels nearby. Instead of helping, he responded rudely—telling me to check the map, questioning if animals would “stop at each point,” and even commenting on my slippers. I chose to walk away, but he and another female staff continued speaking toward me, which felt very unprofessional. Ironically, I later found monkeys and squirrels very close to where he was standing. A simple, polite answer would have been enough. If staff cannot provide basic, respectful guidance to tourists, they should not be in customer service roles. I’ve experienced much better hospitality in Penang—even at local spots like Deen Maju Nasi Kandar. Very disappointing.
