We had a great time with Chuck as our guide. He told us so many things about the area and the facts about Maine. The food we had was so good! Loved the beer at Andy’s and the taco there. We went back to J’s Oysters for dinner and the food there was not desirable…should have listened for other places Chuck recommended.
We loved our Old Port Culinary tour! Anne was a delightful tour guide with a lot of info on Portland and the surrounding areas. The food was delicious! Thank you for a great experience!
History with good food At the end of the tour we were each handed a card with the tour info and suggested minimum tip of $29 for each person. Tipping in America has gotten out of hand in my opinion
Had high hopes but was quickly disappointed. It was not really a walking tour since all of the food stops were really close to each other. Our guide spent a good deal of time speaking more about his personal life than about the tour and history. Food choices were just alright. First stop was fish tacos which lacked flavor and were underwhelming. We also went to a chocolate store and a gelato shop. Both of these stops were good, but you could have just gone on your own and saved money. The biggest highlight my wife was looking forward to was the lobster roll. The restaurant we went to for the roll was not known for its seafood so it was not surprising that the lobster roll was a disappointment. It was clear the tour company chose this location because of its alcoholic beverages and not because of the quality of the food. We expected a better lobster roll since Portland is known for having great lobster dishes. Well, live and learn. On a positive note the chowder stop was good. Research thoroughly before booking and see if the foods being offered are what you would usually eat.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the Old Port Culinary Walking Tour did not meet your expectations. Our goal with this tour is to showcase a variety of Portland's culinary scene while sharing the history, culture, and stories that make the Old Port such a special place. We appreciate your comments about the balance of personal stories and historical information, and we will share that feedback with our team as we are always looking for ways to improve the guest experience. We’re also sorry to hear that some of the food selections did not resonate with you. Our restaurant partners are carefully chosen to provide guests with a mix of local flavors and experiences, but we understand that food preferences and expectations can vary greatly—especially in a city like Portland with so many incredible dining options. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the chowder stop and the chocolate and gelato experiences. We appreciate you giving us a try and sharing your honest thoughts, as feedback like this helps us continue to refine our tours. Thank you again for joining us, and we hope you have the opportunity to enjoy more of Portland’s food scene in the future.
Great tour! We really enjoyed the tastings as every stop and the guide’s love of local foodie culture and history rounded out the experience perfectly.
Ray was a great tour guide, and definitely gave us an authentic experience! The exposure to the different chowders (seafood chowder was incredible!) and the lobster roll with seasonal beer were fantastic. I also love a great dessert, and we had a few. Thanks Ray for the great Portland history and food origin stories!
What a wonderful tour! We learned amazing trivia about Portland from Anne, and I had some of the best, freshest seafood while on the tour. Along with the food, the restaurants included nonalcoholic and some alcoholic drinks, too.
We truly enjoyed our tour guide and all of the food offerings we received. It was really nice to be with a whole group of people that enjoy food as much as we do.
Just finished the Portland food tour with Timothy. Every stop was top notch with 3 excellent food stops and accompanying drink. Topped off with a chocolate store and ice cream. Timothy gave us great history and insight into Portland, Maine’s coastline, and the lobster and fishing industry. Highly recommend.
We really enjoyed the food tour. Our guide, Timothy was great! I loved having a local give the tour. He was very knowledgeable about the area and we gained a better understanding of the history of Portland and its current culture as well. All of the food was delicious and the portions were hefty! You will not leave hungry!
