Stephen was a wonderful guide. A wealth of local knowledge. Not only did we get to see glow worms, but we learned about local fauna and a bit of history. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rotorua.
I cannot recommend the Nocturnal Adventure Glow-worm Tour highly enough. This wasn’t simply one of the highlights of our time in Rotorua, it was one of those genuinely unforgettable experiences that you know you’ll be talking about for years. I’ve seen glow-worms before, and there are plenty of glow-worm experiences to choose from around New Zealand, but this is the one to do. Above all the others. Full stop. If you’re trying to decide which glow-worm tour to book, stop looking and book this one. What makes it so special is that it feels like a proper adventure rather than a tourist attraction. Heading out into the native forest after dark, surrounded by the sounds of the bush, is atmospheric enough — and then you reach the glow-worms. Absolutely breathtaking. Thousands of tiny lights overhead and around you, in complete darkness, creating something that feels almost otherworldly. Photos simply cannot capture what it’s like to actually stand there and experience it. The entire evening was brilliantly done. It felt intimate, authentic and incredibly well guided, without ever feeling rushed or overly commercial. You get the sense that steve genuinely loves this place and wants you to experience it properly. There are bigger and more famous glow-worm attractions in New Zealand, but bigger does not mean better. For atmosphere, adventure, authenticity and sheer wow factor, Real Rotorua’s nocturnal glow-worm experience beats them all. If I could give it more than five stars, I would. 10/10. The best glow-worm tour we’ve experienced anywhere. An absolute must-do in Rotorua.
This tour is awesome! Steve is a wonderful guide, you will be entranced by the secrets of the forest that he shares with you. So much to see and enjoy: waterfalls, glowworms, ancient trees, more varieties of ferns (large, small and tiny) than you knew existed, wetas and beautiful spiders and their webs. Steve is super knowledgeable about all these things and more and takes great delight in sharing them with you. He's also an accomplished photographer and you will come away with some spectacular shots. Do yourself a favor and skip the caves and kayaks and go and see glowworms in a beautiful forest. The practicalities of the tour are as good if not better than you expect: pickup and drop-off is a breeze, the walk itself is easy and all the necessary equipment is provided. I'll be returning for another wander around the forest with glowworms next time I'm back in Rotorua.
One of the most unusual and memorable experiences of our trip to New Zealand. The forest feels completely different at night: the silence, the torchlight, huge ferns and other endemic plants, nocturnal insects, glowworms, and a waterfall in the darkness. And when you switch off the torches, look up at the incredible starry sky and simply listen to the forest — that is a very special moment. We initially thought this experience would be mostly exciting for the kids, but the adults enjoyed it just as much. A huge part of that is the guide — he is fantastic! He tells you about New Zealand nature in such an interesting and engaging way, constantly pointing out things you would never notice on your own. It feels like a real nighttime exploration rather than a standard guided tour. Another wonderful bonus is that he takes great photos throughout the walk, so you come away with some beautiful memories of the experience. A warm, atmospheric and genuinely unique adventure. Highly recommended!
Top I liked very much I loved it.....
Magical Night! Worth going to Rotorua if you only do this tour. The Guide is passionate about the worms and forest and plants. Beautiful and fun. Get out of the city and see the worms up close. Not a hard walk and not too steep, but need to be aware of slippery spots. Guide keeps you on the path and safe. Highly recommend!
Magical it is indeed with nature at it's best. Thank you for recommending and sharing your experience. All the best. Cheers Stephen
Wow, what an incredible evening. Stephen was kind enough to pick me up from my accomodation and then a group of us went into the darkness, looking for glow worms and other things that are usually don't glow. It was a safe, informative and fun outside of the box experience (Stephen is so passionate about his job. It's really amazing) and I'm very happy booking it instead of spending the night in a room. It's a no brainer - book it as well.
Thank you for supporting small group experiences such as myself and great to hear you were not disappointed by your choice. Out side of the box is a great way to describe it. All the best for you future adventures. Cheers Stephen
If David Attenborough somehow mated with Bear Grylls you’d get Steve - an incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and all round good bloke who kept a diverse family of four thoroughly entertained and engaged for a great night. We’ve been on an epic tour from Singapore to Australia and are at the end of our New Zealand leg and this was one of the highlights. Thoroughly recommend this to anyone with a pulse and even the slightest interest in nature
LOVE IT, thanks guys for that Classic Review. Awesome to hear you all loved the experience. Cheers Stephen PS Still smiling
This is a must do for anyone wanting to see Glow worms and learning about the native New Zealand bush. Stephen, the guide was so passionate about it which made it feel so authentic. Stephen was able to show us some of the creatures in the bush. While I have been at Waitomo Caves to see glow worms, this was head and shoulders above that experience.
Awesome, thanks for sharing your experience and great to hear you were not disappointed by what I had to offer. The forest is an amazing place to be and nature can certainly put on some amazing displays. All the best. Cheers Stephen
Unique experience. Stephen is a treasure for tourists. He shows us something different and we appreciate to have him to professionally guide us in Rotorua.
Yes a unique experience for sure, walking through a Native forest at night and knowing nothing in our forest can eat you. A pleasure to be your guide and to be able share with you this very special place. Cheers Stephen
