Un sanctuaire shintoïste somptueusement décoré dédié à Tokugawa Ieyasu, le fondateur du Shogunat Tokugawa. Situé dans les montagnes pittoresques de Nikkō, il est connu pour ses sculptures vibrantes, ses détails à la feuille d'or et ses motifs célèbres comme les singes « See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil ». Contrairement à la simplicité de la plupart des sanctuaires shinto, le Tōshō-gū séduit par son design orné et sa grande échelle. C'est un site classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO et un incontournable pour ceux qui s'intéressent à l'histoire et à l'art des samouraïs du Japon.
Fondé en 767, le sanctuaire Nikkō Futarasan est l'un des sites les plus anciens et les plus sacrés de la région de Nikkō. Il est dédié aux divinités du mont Nantai, du mont Nyoho et du mont Taro, et a longtemps été un centre spirituel pour le culte de la montagne. Le sanctuaire présente un environnement forestier tranquille, des arbres sacrés et une atmosphère paisible qui contraste magnifiquement avec la grandeur du Tōshō-gū voisin. C'est un arrêt parfait pour les voyageurs en quête de nature, de spiritualité et de beauté tranquille au cœur de Nikkō.

Amane was a great guide! He knew a lot about the city and about Japanese culture, his English was great too. We had a wonderful time learning about the temple and shrine in Nikko.

Visiting Tōshō-gū was absolutely unforgettable—the details and colors were stunning. I felt surrounded by history, and it was amazing to imagine the legacy of the Tokugawa era. The atmosphere was lively yet still had a sense of sacredness. Futarasan Shrine, on the other hand, was calm and peaceful in the forest. I loved the contrast between the grandeur of Tōshō-gū and the serenity of Futarasan. This tour gave me both cultural depth and natural beauty in one day.
Joining the Nikko Early Morning History Tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Starting early meant we could enjoy the stunning shrines and temples without the usual crowds, which made the experience feel so special and peaceful.
