The experience was great … enjoyed the entire experience… they guys who assist with the zip lining are absolutely amazing… I was a little nervous/scared but they truly made the entire experience so much fun with the jokes and silly moments that before I knew it the we were at our fifth and final stage…
It was scary fun cant done, definitely going back.
Only visit this place if you are a racist or you support the racial discrimination and mistreatment of black people. On May 16, my aunt and I took my cousin to Mystic Mountain as part of his 17th birthday celebrations. Before going, I read all the social media pages for Mystic Mountain and what to expect. But nothing prepared me for the blatant racism handed to me by some of the staff and perpetuated by the General Manager himself. After being in the pool, my cousin and I made sure to dry ourselves before going on the Ragamuffin ride. We rode it once. On our second attempt, one of the ride coordinators noted that we looked damped. I told him he could feel our clothes because they're dry. He told us we needed to get off the ride. I responded to him that the WHITE lady and her daughter in front of us also looks damped, why isn't she also required to get off the ride? He hissed his teeth and said, "Yow, mi cyaa bother enuh!" And went to fetch his three male team members. All four guys stood over me and my cousin and demanded that we get off the ride - I suppose this was meant to be a shake down because it was totally embarrassing, especially in front of the crowd of visitors watching. Of course, the two black boys who look damp need to get off the ride but the white lady and her daughter who also looks damp can ride, got it. I escalated the matter to the General Manager, Dewald. Without hearing his staff's side of the story, without reviewing the cameras, without conducting any sort of investigation, Dewald would tell me to my face that I had no grounds to claim racial discrimination - even though I just explained to him my lived experience inside his establishment on how I was treated less than the white person in front of me, shaken down and humiliated by his team. It is evident to me that this kind of behaviour is common in this establishment because Dewald expressed no sort of remorse and was apparently offended that I had the audacity to even make such a report to him. Additionally, he was all too happy to hear me ask for a refund because he immediately stepped away and ask his customer service rep to process it. After that, the conversation was ended and Dewald was gone. My intention was never just to get back my money, I wanted to make some recommendations on how things could be improved for the next black person who might feel it safe to enter this place. But Dewald was gone. Upon collecting my refund at the front, I asked if there was a feedback form for me to use and I was not surprised that the rep said no, especially since the General Manager was not sticking around to hear any recommendations. Therefore, I asked for a blank paper and provided my feedback anyways. I asked the rep to give my feedback to someone other than Dewald, because I didn't want to be reporting Dewald to Dewald. The rep also gave me a barcode to provide reviews on TripAdvisor and I'm using this now. However, it should be concerning to any customer to see an organisation that has no internal mechanism to receive complaints and feedback. While the external reviews like TripAdvisor are useful, many customers will avoid leaving bad or honest reviews on a public medium. I should add that while explaining to the rep who provided the refund what had happened, she started crying. She was the only one who offered an apology for the experience and really looked like she understood how bad my experience was. But on my way home, I wondered if she cried because of my bad experience or if she cried because she had also been dealt a similar hand by the General Manager. It would be nice to hear from the staff. Nevertheless, the following are my recommendations for improving service quality at Mystic Mountains: 1. Train all staff, including the General Manager, in providing high quality customer service. 2. Properly communicate ALL standards for use of rides and ensure they are being equally applied to all customers, not just the black ones. 3. Establish proper internal procedures for the collection and treatment of internal feedback, to accommodate those customers who don't really want to make a public statement.
purchase this excursion and they did not communicate properly as far as pick up time. So when we got off the ship. We had to wait over 30 minutes for them to figure out a ride for us. This excursion is 2 Hours Dr. from the port. So you spend four hours in car round-trip could be more with traffic when we got there they rushed us pushed us through everything. The zip line we were behind like a group of 50 people. They were just moving us through like cattle so it really wasn’t enjoyable. The stops were so abrunt, one time the rope caught my arm and there’s a huge burn and bruise on my arm. This trip would be great if you had time to spend at the place and you came into Ocho Rios‘s port don’t recommend this if you are coming from Montego Bay, you have no time to stop and enjoy any restaurants food Bob Marley shop.
The overall experience was great fun, especially the zip line. The guys running the zip line were friendly and utterly hilarious, they made the trip. The only let down was the food we were provided as part of our inclusive trip, a bucket of really disappointing chicken and rice with a small cup of juice. It was bad.
