We arrived on a busy day and on seeing the queues for the shuttle buses decided to walk. As I walk with poles it was challenging! We went straight to the Abbey. When we arrived at the ticket check we were allowed in even though we were 1.5 hours late, due to traffic congestion. Although I thought I had purchased an audio quite with our tickets, I hadn’t! So we queued to get them 6€ each for an interactive tablet, they were brilliant. Had we paid on the day it would have been half the online price for the entry tickets. Once inside, using the tablet opened up an interactive view of life during the period the Monastery was in operation from the13 century to modern times. A fabulous visit and never seemed rushed or too crowded, given the numbers of people. There were two toilets inside the Monastery which were in heavy demand! There was a food outlet just before entering, no seating area, price ok. By the time we had finished and we exited the site via the village, we realised there is a lot more to see. Lots of shops and eateries to suit all pockets. We caught the free shuttle, despite the queues, back to the car parking area. The weather was kind, not too hot and gentle breezes.
The green ticket from Tripadvisor was not accepted at the counter. However, there were other tickets available for admission to the monastery and for the tablet. That worked then. We chose an appointment at 4 p.m. and it was normally crowded for August at this time. The tablets were worth it for the tour of the monastery. We did not stand in line for the shuttle buses, but walked instead (40 min). It was worth it.
We needed tickets and Viator had the tickets. Prepaid is the way to go to skip the line in this crowded destination.
Nice experience! Worth to take the audioguide. I had a lovely time there.
Barton was awesome! He took us around the bay and told stories about the place, histories, and the geography. It was really fun for everyone, big and small. Everyone had fun.
Gorgeous place, great views. Very packed due to crowds at height of summer.
Nice to see, especially from the outside. Inside also beautiful but always extremely busy. The abbey is nice to see but not very special. Went there for 2 hours and then had lunch somewhere else.
The visit to the abbey with the augmented reality tablet was novel and very interesting; it allowed you to see what the rooms were like centuries ago and provided all the interesting and summarized information, with the ability to listen to it again if you didn't understand it well.
We found it very interesting. We had booked tickets for 3 people with an audio guide in German... and unfortunately did not receive the audio guide. We were told that we did not have an audio guide. I do not think that is right. We had definitely paid for it.
Unfortunately that the tour schedule did not work out but the operator was kind enough to offer full refund. Highly appreciated the response and support provided.
