Xi'an with Kenneth

From Bejing we travelled to Xi‘an by bullet train. There we, a family of 5 with three adult children, were picked up by our guide Kenneth and taken to the hotel. The plan for the next day was discussed. The next morning Kenneth led us to the Terracotta Army without waiting, which we could look at according to our time needs. This was followed by a delicious lunch at a local restaurant and a visit to the large Wild Goose Pagoda. The next day we did the bike tour on the city wall, a nice experience! Then we went to the Grand Mosque and the Bazar Quarter, where we had enough time and a good lunch. We were very satisfied with our expert tour guide Kenneth, without him we would have wasted a lot of time with the organization and also not found such good restaurants, we would not have been able to get the right order of food. Big praise also to China Hightlights for the good organization!

Super well organised and delightfull trip through Xi'an , emperor city

We are a party of 10 friends who like to travel and do so for nearly 20 years. We always travel in a customised organisation and as a private party Our stay in Xi'an was organised by China Highights (as part of a 16 days trip through China). We arrived from Beijing with the bullet train (must do experience to see the rapid changing and evolving of modern China) and were welcomed by our local guide Amy. We visited all Xi'an highlights (Temple, Terra Cotta warriors, city wall, islamic centre , .... even Xi'an nightlife) and enjoyed it very mutch. The program was adapted to our wishes , flexible with big variety in history and visits. One of the highlights of our stay was certainly our local guide Amy, fluent in English, flexible, passionated and well informed. Her vision of and passion for modern and old China was a real eye-opener for us, and the discussions involved will be something we will not quickly forget. Organisation of meals, transports,... all was at the standard. We stayed at the Grand Wyndham, excellent rooms and service (definitelyexperience the Club formula), but to our group a little bit "too big" and as so far chilly. Anyhow, an experience we will never forget. Once again a big hug for our excellent guideAmy.

Private tour of Xian with great guide

We were a group of four girls and were in Xian for 2 days/3 nights as part of our 11 day trip to China and the entire trip was through China Highlights. Lily, our guide in Xian was really wonderful and everyone in the group really like her. We had initially missed her at the train station but found her soon after we tracked back within 5 min. She has a good personality, is friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us extensive information on the Terracotta Soldiers, the Museum and every place we visited. She presented us with choices on what to do along with prices so that we can decide if we want to partake. She advised on us on where to shop on approved quality souveniers and gave us the price range. We never felt any pressure from her at all; she even was helpful in helping us negotiate prices. She was very accommodating and helpful to our requests. For our food choices, she took our tastes into consideration while recommending options. Also, in general it was evident she was a good person as in more than one occasion I witnessed her being helpful to strangers. Xian is a great city with historical value and really good food. It was much more modern that we expected it to be in terms of availability of hotels, the airport and the train station. We were picked up from the train station and dropped off at the airport. The Terracotta Soldiers, the Pagoda temple, walking the City Wall af the Muslim Quarter were all worthwhile. We also chose to watch the The Tang Dynasty show at night and it was worth it to watch. But I recommend you skip the dumpling dinner that accompanies the Tang Dynasty show. The dumplings were not tasty at all and Xian being a place with great food, it would have been better to eat somewhere else. Our driver and the van that we were transported in was comfortable. He had pleasant attitude and was very accomodating to our plans. The guide and driver worked well together.

How cute Xi'an is

I went to China mainly to see pandas, and passing through Xi'an to see Terracotta warriors was just another attraction, not the focus of the ride. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by that city and by Anna, the guide that China Highlights made available. Naturally, most ancient cities have lost their original walls, due to modernity. However, Xi'an has them intact and they are impressive. Moreover, it has the charm of having been capital in the Tang dynasty and, of course, the famous Terracotta warriors. The museum of the warriors is really impressive and I just didn’t like that there were many visitors, it was difficult to get close or even stay for a while enjoying the view without pushing and elbowing. I guess it's inevitable in such an attractive place. I will miss Anna, because in addition to being a very good guide, she is very warm and dear. I was moved that, seeing that we were Argentine, I had a book to learn Spanish and tried to practice it with us. In addition, I was attentive to any details to make us feel more comfortable, and was very patient with my need to stop to rest often because my fitness is not very good. In addition to the warriors, in Xi'an we also went to the Muslim Quarter, very picturesque, although full of street food that I dare not touch. And we visited the Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist temple, where Anna explained to us demonstrating a lot of knowledge about everything related to that cult. In conclusion, a very pleasant visit. We didn't go to the theater to see the Tang show because we were so tired, but I would have liked to.

China Highlights - three days in Xi’an

We arrived from Beijing on the bullet train and were met by our smiling guide, Lina. Our lady driver was waiting and the two of them bought us to our fine hotel and got us settled in. Our stay in Xian was excellent. We had scheduled a free day for ourselves and Lina helped us reorganize our itinerary a little so that we would not be too busy on one day. Lina showed us where we could get a good meal, where the Muslim Market was so that we could go there in our free time. She also organized that we could have a massage in our room at the hotel and arranged tickets for us to see a live theater show. Really appreciated Lina. Of course the terra-cotta warriors was the highlight of our trip to Xi’an. Lina briefed us on the history and folklore stories about the site and the warriors. An excellent experience. We also made a cycle tour around the top of the old city wall. A bit harder than we anticipated but we managed it. Thanks again to Lina and her driver for giving us a memorable and stress free journey in Xi’an. On the forth day Lina put us on our flight to Guilin. The subject of another review.
