An impressive Medieval Castle, despite a disappointing start

Malbork Castle is a truly impressive and beautiful castle. Although much of it has been rebuilt, it is fascinating to see how such an enormous and remarkable structure was constructed in the Middle Ages. The digital audio guide works very well and automatically detects where you are, providing the correct information about each room, corridor, building, or courtyard you visit. It is worth knowing that you cannot enter the castle without the audio guide and headphones. Unfortunately, we were not informed of this at the ticket office, so we had to go back to collect them. We also highly recommend buying a ticket for the tower, the view is definitely worth it. The only disappointment was the service at the ticket office. The staff seemed impatient and unfriendly, and we were even given the wrong number of tickets. Unfortunately, we also noticed that several other visitors in the queue experienced the same poor service. Overall, Malbork Castle is a place we would definitely recommend visiting.

Definitely worth it,...

Definitely worth it, debated this or going on our own via train and walking to the castle. So glad we went this route instead. Staff was fantastic, friendly, helpful and went out of their way to ensure the trip was nothing but pleasant. Live guide at the castle clearly loves what she does and was so fun, knowledgeable had great facts and stories.

An excellent tour - not to be missed!

An excellent tour - this gothic red bricked castle is amazing and very big. Severely damaged (80%+ destroyed) in World War 2, it has undergone major reconstruction. The reconstruction (still ongoing) has been done very carefully and there are a lot of original items in situ and on exhibit. We were collected promptly from our hotel by Simon ('Mr. Shuttle') who gave us a very good introduction to the area on our drive to the castle. Our castle guide, Alicja, was superb - extremely knowledgeable - no question was beyond her capacity to give a full answer. All in all an excellent tour - not to be missed!

Good pickup service with a guide

Very good experience. We were very happy with Simón the driver, who also provided explanations, and Alicja the guide. But it is English.

Guide knew the castle...

Guide knew the castle like the back of her hand. Driver Simon knew the landscape and provided us with interesting tidbits that we were not aware of about the area. Like the storkes and moose.

Simon is a great tour van driver

The trip is titled Malbork Castle tour but I'd have to say that I learned more about Poland on the hour travel to and back than I did on the actual tour. Simon provided so many interesting stories. I would gladly book another trip with him. Regarding the castle, it is beautiful and I am so glad that they could reconstruct so much after WWII destruction. I really liked the draw bridges and gates. Our tour guide was well informed. I also enjoyed seeing the individual living quaters and the grand rooms. The only part of the tour that i felt was not needed is the amber exhibit as these can be seen in the Amber museum in Gdansk. There are a few negatives. This is not a place for the physically handicapped. There are many steps, some without handrails. I use a cane and had trouble maneuving several stairs. Also, most of the pathways are made up of uneven height stones which were difficult for many of our group after 3 hours of walking.

A real-life medieval fortress

Massive and impressive — one of the largest castles in the world. The audio guide helps bring the history to life, though walking through everything takes time and energy.
