Le nom de la place a changé avec le temps. Elle a été connue sous les noms de "Plaza del Arrabal", "Plaza de la Constitución", "Plaza Real", "Plaza de la República" et maintenant "Plaza Mayor". Ces noms reflètent les événements, l'histoire et le règne de l'histoire Espagnole. "Plaza del Arrabal" était le nom original de l'actuelle "Plaza Mayor". La "Plaza del Arrabal" était autrefois le site du Marketplace le plus populaire jusqu'à la fin du XVe siècle. À la suite de la Constitution de 1812, toutes les grandes places d'Espagne ont été renommées "Plaza de la Constitución". Elle a également porté ce nom de 1820 à 1823, 1833 à 1835, 1840 à 1843 et 1876 à 1922. Quand le roi Borbón fut restauré en 1814, il prit le nom de "Plaza Real". En 1873, le nom change pour "Plaza de la República". À la fin de la guerre civile Espagnole l'esplanade reçut son nom actuel de "Plaza Mayor".
Plus de 100 ans se sont écoulés depuis que le Mercado de San Miguel a ouvert ses portes en tant que marché alimentaire de gros. Aujourd’hui, ce bâtiment historique s’impose comme l’un des principaux marchés gastronomiques du monde. Il permet aux visiteurs de découvrir l'essence et les saveurs les plus significatives de chaque coin de l'Espagne. Du meilleur jambon ibérique et des poissons et crustacés frais apportés chaque jour de Galice, aux plats de riz méditerranéen et aux fromages les plus exquis de Castille, des Asturies et du Pays Basque – au Mercado de San Miguel, vous trouverez tous les points forts de la cuisine Espagnole. Réparti sur plus de 20 stands, le dénominateur commun est ici un engagement envers des tapas et des plats de pub de haute qualité.
Cette petite rue est l'une des deux places les plus charmantes de Madrid : Conde de Miranda et Villa . Et il peut se targuer d'abriter un espace protégé par l'environnement historique et artistique qui l'entoure : à l'angle de la Plaza de la Villa se trouve la Torre de los Lujanes (appartenant au XVe siècle). Dans cette même partie de la rue, il y a aussi la Société économique royale maritense des amis du pays, l'ancienne bibliothèque municipale de journaux et l'église de Corpus Christi, où se trouve le couvent de Las Carboneras, puisque la congrégation garde une image de l'Immaculée Conception trouvée dans un four à charbon et à laquelle divers miracles sont attribués milagros.
C'était l'un des principaux centres médiévaux de Madrid, puisque trois rues en partent, correspondant à la disposition originale de la ville : Codo, Cordón et Madrid. À sa périphérie se trouvent les façades principales de trois bâtiments de haute valeur historico-artistique, construits dans différents siècles. La plus ancienne est la Casa y Torre de los Lujanes (XVe siècle), de style gothique-mudéjar, située sur le côté est de la Plaza. C'est maintenant le bureau de l'Académie des sciences morales et politiques.
Le palais royal de Madrid est la résidence officielle du roi d'Espagne; Cependant, les rois actuels n'y vivent pas, mais dans le palais de la Zarzuela, il est donc utilisé pour les cérémonies d'État et les actes solennels. C'est maintenant que notre visite commence vraiment. Bien que le projet original de Juvarra n'ait jamais été réalisé, le Palais royal de Madrid peut se targuer d'être le plus grand palais habité d'Europe. Et nous disons habités car, bien que la famille royale Espagnole n'y réside pas, c'est toujours le lieu où ils ont leur résidence officielle. Comme nous l’avons déjà commenté, le bâtiment, dont les travaux ont duré jusqu’en 1764, date à laquelle Carlos III y a vécu pour la première fois, est composé de 135 000 mètres carrés et de 3 418 pièces, mettant également en valeur ses 870 fenêtres, 240 balcons ou les 44 escaliers qu’il possède.

First the meeting point's address was wrong and the whole group was not informed that the Fun&Tickets company has changed the place..thanks to the hospitality of a random guy from the place nearby we were told the new address When arrived, none of the stuff even apologised... The short walk where we were supposed to learn about Madrid was just a walk to the castle without any promised interesting stories as it was said in the tour description The castle walk was unsatisfactory as well- random information was provided in an english with such strong spanish accent that it was difficult to follow Not recommeded
At first we thought we were only visiting the royal palace, but in reality, before arriving there, we had the pleasure of seeing and learning about other parts of the city that were also linked to royal history. Federico was a professional and friendly guide who explained everything to us in great detail.

At first I was disappointed we were walking “again on another tour”. I thought we were on a tour bus as my hubby had booked it but with Beatrice, soon I forgot I was walking and exploring in the August heat. I was transported into another time of Madrid and was in my element of history. She was courteous, professional and clearly spoke English. She didn’t rush us and took care to show us many key points of interest during our tour (including brief quizzes) while visiting the Royal Spanish palace. I would recommend her as a guide to anyone.
