The singing and acting was amazing and even as a man I really enjoyed it!
Costumes, set, design and singing five star. Score was poor considering how awesome Billy Elliot songs are, I thought they would’ve been more memorable with Elton’s writing. Nate and Andy weak actors. Miranda great, Emily stole the show.
This was an excellent Broadway musical the performances was amazing, especially with the talented actress, Vanessa Williams. The whole production team did an amazing job I loved it 😍.
Monday night... another musical. This time The Devil wears Prada. I loved the film and was unsure about the show having read the reviews. Overall, this is a three star show. The plot...what there is if it...has been thinned even more. I struggled to understand how they filled 2.5 hours on stage? The first half is the weaker, the costuming looks cheap (Primark as one reviewer noted) and generic rock music that all blues into one. The second half is by far the stronger, with three good character.sings that are actually memorable. The well known lines from the script are all there, but there inclusion feels false and interrupts the rhythm of the show. The theatre was over half empty....and that'd how the show made me feel?
Would have been really disappointed if this had been the only show we saw during our time in London. It felt a bit 'flat' and didn't hold our interest by Act 2 despite being fans of the film. Soundtrack wasn't memorable. Although Vanessa was one of the draws, she didn't have a big singing role. Would liken it to The Bodyguard which was fine to see locally on tour but would not be worth a special trip. Theatre was easy to get to and facilities were good.
Overall it was a good production. I just really struggled to make out the lyrics because of how loud the band was, and the acoustics of the theatre. Making it hard to follow the storyline. Wasn’t so bad when they were simply talking.
An absolute triumph. What a cast, from lead (the age defying awesome and stunning Vanessa Williams) to chorus they mesmerised. Such wonderful voices, the costumes are stunning, the stage setting, scenery and lighting inspired and breathtaking, joyous ear worm music. Absolutely loved the way "Emily" started the show, brilliant. This is an absolute must see, you will have a night to remember.
We’ve just got on the train after watching The Devil Wears Prada tonight. I went with my son and we were on the first row. It was a bit close to the stage, I’d suggest going at least 4 rows back. The actual show was brilliant. Really fast paced and full of dancing and singing with the exact story line from the film. I don’t think the other cast members would mind me saying that the lady who plays Emily is the star of the show. She’s so funny and every time she left the stage the audience erupted into applause. We had a really good evening. I’ve just read some of the nasty reviews. They might be from women who took their husbands and didn’t like seeing all of the absolutely stunning women on stage. They can all definitely sing and act.
We loved the show! The five of us thought the show was great! Amazing costumes and acting. Overall lots of fun. Theatre drinks were a little pricey.
Shockingly bad. I cannot get over that this show was apparently extended and Vanessa got nominated for an award? I mean, it is terrible. Worst show I’ve ever seen on the West End. Vanessa can sing, but her acting is very wooden. Andy is not great either and lacks charisma, not really capturing the character, in my opinion. Emily was good. Given Elton’s involvement I expected great songs, even they were dull. I’m so shocked. If I could give 0 stars I would.
