DO not use them. Absolutely the worst. They tell you 10 am pickup, and show up before that and leave. They NEVER say anywhere on this description they will be there before the pickup time. They never came or responded to ANY of my messages on the app. No reply, no call, no nothing. I waited from 10 am to 11:30 am and they finally wrote they were there at 9:42 am? Its 10 AM pickup!! I wasted a complete day and have nothing to do now but walk the city by myself because its too late to do anything else. Ive been using Viator for 5 years and have never had this experience before with any operator and I travel all over the world.
Hello, Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear about your experience and the frustration caused by the pickup confusion. We understand how disappointing it must have been to miss the tour and will review this situation to improve our communication and pickup process. Best Regards, Gabriele
This is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The guides are very knowledgeable and the experience is very safe.
Hello, Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We’re delighted to hear you had such a memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s great to know you felt safe throughout the tour and that your guides were able to share their knowledge and make the experience even more special for you. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you again in Iceland! Kind regards, Zuzanna
We travelled with our 12 and 18 year old. The experience itself is amazing! However, it is very, very expensive for the time you get down below. It felt very rushed. Before I knew it, the guide was calling for us to go back up and they waste no time getting you in and out. The hike was great and a big part of the experience. For the money spent, you should be getting more time down in the volcano.
Hello, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re very glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed the overall experience and especially the hike, which is such an important part of the adventure. We also appreciate your comments regarding the time spent inside the volcano. We understand your perspective, especially considering the uniqueness and cost of the experience. The timing is carefully managed to accommodate all scheduled groups safely and smoothly throughout the day, but feedback like yours is very valuable and will be shared with our team. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. Kind regards, Zuzanna
This was the absolute highlight of my trip. Although pricey, very very VERY worth it! Our guides were humorous, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The hike to the volcano was a little long, but not strenuous and our group was full of mixed-ages from young to old. The colors inside the volcano and just the sheer size of it will definitely leave you in awe. Highly highly highly recommend!
This was an incredible and surreal experience! An absolute highlight of our trip to Iceland. I usually try to leave reviews covering “the good, the bag and the ugly” but there was nothing bad or ugly about this - except the bus driver who drove us to the location was a very erratic driver and not the safest, no one on the bus felt very safe on the way there or back. The entire experience and the guides were 10/10. I recommended this tour to multiple people while I was still in Iceland and I will tell anyone going to Iceland to do it too. My partner and I had the best time. The inside of the volcano is like nature’s cathedral and the walk across the lava field is so invigorating. It really felt like a once in a lifetime experience. And the veggie soup we were served at the end was one of the best I’ve ever had! Thank you for such a great day!
This is an experience not to be missed when visiting Iceland. The only place in the world that you can actually go into a "dormant" volcano and witness the interior beauty. The guides were wonderful and caring, and the entire experience - from arrival to departure - was second to none! HIGHLY recommend.
Dear Customer, Thank you so much for your amazing review! We’re thrilled to hear you found the volcano experience unforgettable and that our caring guides helped make it so special. Knowing you’d highly recommend it truly means a lot to us. We hope to welcome you back again! Best regards, Gray Line Team
In late August, my son aged 10 and I did the Inside the Volcano tour. My wife and other children (aged 12 and 10) opted to skip the tour so they could sleep in that morning. The meeting point is located ~ 30 minutes from downtown Reykjavik. Thereafter, you hike 40 minutes to another hut where you get geared up. You are then lowered into the volcano via a shaft. You have ~ 30 minutes to explore within the chamber before you head back up for delicious soup (we opted for the vegetarian option). Then, you can walk back to the original hut on your own (weather-permitting) or wait for your group to head back together. We opted for the former. Being inside a volcano for 30 minutes was a surreal experience. There is nowhere else in the world where you can do this. The price is exorbitant but it was well worth it because of how unique it is and the visual splendors you see in the chamber. I highly recommend doing this tour.
Dear Customer, Thank you for sharing your detailed experience! We’re thrilled to hear you and your son enjoyed the Inside the Volcano tour. It truly is a once- in a lifetime adventure, and we’re glad the hike, descent, and even the soup made it memorable. Your high recommendation means a lot. We hope to welcome you back! Best regards, Gray Line Team
Use good clothing for rainy days ! Use good shoes - you need nothing to eat. A very good soup is provided !
Dear Customer, Thank you for sharing your tips! We’re happy you enjoyed the tour (and the soup 😊). Good shoes and rain gear definitely make the experience more comfortable. We appreciate you helping future guests be better prepared! Best Regards, Gray Line Team
The experience itself was great but the tour guide communication is not.. it took reaching out several times on several different platforms to get them to answer and it made me very anxious if I’d get a response in time.
Dear Customer, Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the tour experience itself. We sincerely apologize for the communication delays and understand how stressful that was. Your comments help us improve responsiveness so future guests feel fully supported. Best Regards, Gray Line Team
A unique experience that you cannot miss when in Iceland. This is the only place on earth where you can enter the magma chamber of a dormant volcano. There’s a mostly flat and scenic hike to get to/from the entrance of the volcano, and a thrilling 400ft ride on essentially a modified window-washing platform to get to the bottom. Amazing rock formations, beautiful colors, … a must-do activity! The guide is extremely knowledgeable about the history and geology of the area and the volcano itself. My family of 4, including kids 12 & 14, loved it - it was our #1 activity from our action-packed 9-day stay in the country.
Dear Customer, Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled your family loved this once-in-a-lifetime adventure into a dormant volcano. It’s fantastic to hear you enjoyed the scenic hike, thrilling descent, and stunning geology. We’re glad the guide’s knowledge enhanced your visit—definitely a must-do in Iceland! Best Regards, Gray Line Team
