Au milieu du vieux quartier, le temple Bach Ma est l'un des temples les plus anciens et les plus sacrés de la ville, fondé à l'origine au IXe siècle. La traduction de Bach Ma est White Horse et cela fait référence à une histoire derrière la construction du Temple. Le roi Ly Thai To avait eu du mal à construire le temple alors que ses murs ne cessaient de s'effondrer. On dit qu'un cheval blanc délimitait la meilleure zone pour construire le temple avec ses sabots pour aider le roi à construire le temple. En entrant dans le temple par d'anciennes portes en bois, vous pourrez voir l'intérieur magnifiquement décoré et un palanquin funéraire laqué rouge. À l'intérieur du temple, vous trouverez une statue du cheval blanc, un sanctuaire dédié à Confucius et un autel du phénix pour les offrandes aux quatre saisons. Le temple Bach Ma est toujours activement utilisé par les fidèles qui viennent ici pour brûler de l'encens et prier.
Etant une architecture unique qui perdure avec les hauts et les bas de la capitale Hanoi, le pont Long Bien est devenu l’un des symboles de la ville. Le pont est non seulement une construction routière, mais aussi un vestige historique vivant. En proie aux guerres françaises et américaines, le pont Long Bien a été témoin de nombreux moments historiques. Le pont Long Bien a été construit de 1989 à 1902 pendant l'occupation française du pays. Peu de gens savent que, avec une longueur de plus de 2 km, le pont Long Bien était autrefois le deuxième plus long pont du monde, juste après le pont de Brooklyn par American. Il est intéressant de noter que Long Bien Bridge est le seul pont à Hanoi qui permet aux touristes de se promener le long de la voie ferrée, de goûter des desserts ou d’acheter des légumes frais ou du poisson des vendeurs du pont. Qui plus est, les visiteurs venant à Hanoi ont déclaré que le pont Long Bien était le meilleur endroit pour observer le coucher de soleil et prendre de belles photos.
Le marché de Dong Xuan a été fondé en 1889 par les Français et tire son nom de son emplacement. À cette époque, le marché était un lieu de négociation favorable, surtout après la construction du pont de Long Bien par les Français. Vous ne le savez peut-être pas, toutes les anciennes rues de Hanoi ont été nommées d'après leur commerce d'origine, qui avait ensuite été transféré sur le marché de Dong Xuan sous la domination française. C’est la raison pour laquelle tous les noms commencent par le mot Hang (produit) et le mot suivant est ce qu’ils vendent: Hang Ca vend du poisson (Ca signifie poisson), etc.

Kien was an excellent guide! His personal knowledge of Vietnam history and culture mixed well with his time living in USA and Ireland. English was excellent so he understood question right off. We started tour with a beautiful view of the city from a rooftop lounge, then inside for cold iced coffee and history lesson (sitting in the air conditioning!). We walked to a few interesting places including a tiny alley to see how some live in Hanoi. Kien described culture of "shop roads" and "fake paper" -- things that you wouldn't know just by walking the old Quarter. Highest rating for this walking tour and Kien as our guide!!

We had such an interesting and enjoyable tour with Angelina. It was our first day in Hanoi and it gave us a great starting point for understanding the city and history. Dung was a great guide. Her English was excellent, and she was very friendly and open. I felt I had the opportunity to learn more about how people reallly live, as well as some history/orientation. My only disappointment was that the sites and markets were closed for the 6pm tour, which was NOT clarified for me. Had I known, I probably would have done a different tour. Still, I enjoyed the chat and opportunity to see the city at night with a local. Plus, Dung bought me a treat of delish donuts! I bet the earlier tours are super.

Nice guide that gave us an ok guide of Vietnam and Hanoi. Recommend tours where they have a microphone, as the guide spoke a little low and there is a lot of noise in the streets of Hanoi.
