Kotor est situé dans la partie la plus isolée de Boka Kotorska (la baie de Kotor). Bien que datant de la période illyrienne, Kotor est devenu un important centre commercial et artistique au Moyen Âge. Au cours des siècles, de nombreux empires se sont battus pour le contrôle de la ville: c’est-à-dire une ville autonome de l’empire byzantin, une ville libre de la Serbie médiévale, puis un État vénitien ou hongrois, qui a acquis son indépendance avant de revenir sous contrôle vénitien, juste pour être occupée. par la France puis l’Autriche, jusqu’à ce que Kotor devienne enfin une partie de la Yougoslavie. En passant par la porte de la mer, le groupe passera 5 à 10 minutes sur la place des armes pour entendre l’histoire de la tour de l’horloge et du pilier de la honte.
Après un arrêt sur la place des armes, la visite se poursuivra jusqu'au palais de la Beskuca ...
La visite nous mène au palais Pima, où nous entendrons parler de la vie dans les foyers de Kotor il y a des siècles.

Old city surrounded by walls for about 4 km. Like many locations overlooking the Adriatic, it was often prey to pirates. It can be reached on foot from the port and offers truly interesting sea and beaches. Strangely, the euro is in use even though they are not yet part of the EU today. Personally, I did not know how beautiful this part of the coast was.

This was a short small group walking tour. Our guide, Marja, was engaging, clearly knew her history and enjoyed her work. She was easy to find right outside the Main Gate. The tour is only one hour, as shown in the listing, so it isn't in great depth, but does give you a good feel for this very old city in this new country (Montenegro gained independence in 2006.) At the conclusion, she provided a variety of suggestions of other ways to explore and enjoy the old town area. We would have happily spent more time with Marja.
