Excellent experience from start to finish. Our guide Nikos was fantastic. He communicated everything really well. The bus was spotless, the driver was great too. I would definitely recommend this to others who want to go to the Samaria Gorge.
Thanks to our wonderful tour guide, Ms. Tanja Langeloh, we were informed about this day trip and booked it directly with her when she was at our hotel. This day will remain unforgettable for us—dreamlike! We were doubly lucky, as the tour guide who accompanied us on our trip was really excellent. Her name is Claudia, and she mastered her task exceptionally well. Crossing the gorge should not be underestimated. You conquer 1220 meters of elevation over 16 kilometers downhill. It is warm, and good footwear is absolutely necessary.
Dear Tatjana, Thank you very much for sharing your experience. We’re delighted to hear that this beautiful excursion left such a lasting impression on you, combining breathtaking scenery with a truly memorable day exploring the gorge. It’s also wonderful to know that the informative guidance and overall organization contributed so positively to your experience. We truly appreciate your kind words about Tanja and Claudia, whose professionalism and engaging approach clearly made the day even more enjoyable. At Cretan Holidays, we highly value a dedicated team that brings each excursion to life. We would be very happy to welcome you again on another unforgettable Cretan Holidays excursion!
The tour description reads like a great hike through a gorge. We have already hiked some gorges and are also otherwise experienced runners. However, this tour is like a gym class at school. Due to the limited time you have to rush through the gorge, has hardly any possibility to take photos or enjoy the view. The path is very narrow, so you always stand in the way of others when you stop. The path is also very challenging, you have to set every step safely and purposefully. As a result, you can also not enjoy the gorge. Once in the village you also have to hurry up while eating to reach the ferry. A mega tiring day that we would not book again.
Dear Annett, Thank you for sharing your feedback. As noted in the tour description, this excursion is a challenging 10 mile walk along a rough, rocky, and uneven path through the gorge. While it can be physically demanding, the stunning scenery and dramatic landscapes make it one of Europe’s true natural wonders, definitely worth experiencing. We appreciate your insights and hope to welcome you again on a Cretan Holidays excursion, where you can discover more of the island’s remarkable beauty at your own pace.
Very worth seeing tour even if the long journey makes the day extremely long. Great guide Claudia with her information all around.
Dear Ralf, Thank you for your kind feedback. We’re glad to hear the tour was worth the journey and that you enjoyed the beauty of the destination. It’s wonderful to know that Claudia’s insights added to the experience, our team always aims to make each excursion both informative and enjoyable. We’d be happy to welcome you again on another Cretan Holidays excursion to explore even more of Crete’s highlights!
The experience was incredible, we hiked for about 6.5 hours through the gorge. My advice would be to take stops and look around at the views because whilst your walking you must look at your feet so that you don’t fall. The beach at the end is worth everything and it truly is gorgeous. My only complaint is that the town at the end wasn’t great and very overpriced (tourist trap). But apart from that the whole hike was something I’ll never forget. I personally felt it was really challenging and given that I’m not a hiker as such, I struggled to push through and woke up the next morning in pain. I expected this but I’m just saying if your not very very active you may struggle. Our guide was so lovely and the everything was well organised and put together. The boat trip was scenic and beautiful (even tho I did fall asleep) and the coach had AC and was comfy. Overall good experience.
Dear Ava, Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review. We're so glad the hike through the gorge left a lasting impression, it's truly a stunning route, especially with that gorgeous beach reward at the end. We know it's a challenge, but your effort definitely paid off! It's great to hear the excursion felt well-organized and that you enjoyed the scenic boat trip and a comfortable ride. We’d love to see you again soon on another Cretan Holidays adventure!
Great gorge. You should definitely go hiking. You will be picked up at the meeting point by bus. After a short break on the plateau of Omalo we go to the gorge. The tour guide in, who even walks along, gives a lot of information during the trip. Price is not included in the excursion. At the end, you take the ferry two stops away and are taken back to the hotel by bus.
Dear Icehawk, Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re glad you enjoyed the beautiful gorge and found the guide’s support and information helpful along the hike. It sounds like a memorable day, and we hope to assist you with more adventures in the future.
A wonderful national park. Very challenging hike in a beautiful piece of nature. Exhausting but glad to have visited the gorge...
Dear Thomas, Thank you for your kind review! We're happy to hear you enjoyed the hike and the beauty of the national park. It may be challenging, but we're glad it left you with a rewarding experience in such stunning nature. We hope to welcome you back for more adventures!
A beautiful tour in nature. Good footwear is needed. Take food and drink with you, where you can refill the water in the gorge.
Dear Fritz, Thank you for your review! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed your excursion in Samaria. Your tips about good footwear and bringing food and drinks will surely be helpful to future guests. The fact that you can refill water directly from the gorge is not only true, but also a testament to the magnificent and clean natural environment in the area. We hope to welcome you again soon.
Pick up by bus near the hotel. After a short stopover with the possibility to strengthen for the hike we went into the Samaria gorge. The gorge is very impressive and beautiful with stony ground that is not for flip-flops with sensitive feet. After the hike we went back to the hotel by boat and bus. The tour guide was there the whole time and the "broom cart" so that everyone would find their way back from the ravine to the ship. The hike was recommended to us by Tarek Blah our Cretan Holidays contact on site at the hotel. It is also worth asking him for more insider tips. Thanks again for the great and extensive support on site! That's as good as it gets.
Dear Rumpel, Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us! Super nice trip. Very exhausting, though. You felt like you covered 21 at the end. It's worth considering. View is fantastic
