The vast glacier was a beauty beyond reality. It's powerful when you see it in front of you. There were so many glaciers on the road that I kept stopping.
This is a review of the Vatnajokull National Park particularly the walking tracks. The views are splendid in a unique area but the information on the state of the tracks is highly misleading to the point of being dangerous. We are experienced hikers but we found the tracks so badly maintained and washed out that in places they were barely passable. The walk up to Svartifoss is well maintained but the S5/S6 alternate route back which was signposted blue (easy) was anything but especially the decent. You want to attract people then repair your tracks and fix your misleading signs.
We appreciate these kind words! And thank you for the notes, In the future, we’ll make sure to discuss this with our team and fix what we can and learn from this. The last thing we want to do is let our clients down. We hope we will meet you again on your next Iceland visit.
We booked a private ice cave tour with this fabulous company. Planning emails were returned very promptly with warm messages. We were lucky to have Skulli as our guide for the day which ended up stretching into the evening. Skulli provided expert round trip transportation from our hotel. We were grateful not to be driving ourselves since the weather caused some slippery roads which he maneuvered expertly. Skulli planned a day that met all our destination requests and his knowledge of his country is superb. We were delighted to meet Bjorg at glacier bay. She joined us as the ice cave driver and guide. We didn’t know the company would provide 2 guides. We are 70’s seniors and not particularly fit. Our slow walking was the reason a three hour tour stretched to 4+ hours. Skulli and Bjorg were beyond kind, always helping us on the paths to and from the cave. They continued to praise our efforts as their work day far exceeded their expectations. They never rushed us, even taking spectacular pictures of us in the cave. They both are justly proud of their beautiful country. We left knowing we have gentle and kind friends in Iceland.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. We hope to see you again soon. All the best Southcoast Adventure team
This trip was spectacular mainly due to our tour guide, Ingvar. His depth of knowledge is outstanding and were kept engaged throughout the day long journey. Highly recommend him if you choose to go on this tour.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Shobana! IWe hope you'll come back for more adventures on your next Iceland vist :-) Ingvar is genius, we are lucky to have him on board. All the best
Perhaps it is due to the time of year few ice floes float and unimpressive. You can only do the boat tour from May 1 so we could only walk a bit around the lake. During our walk we were surprised by a bunch of curious seals, which made it all right!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us :-) Best regards Sigga Fríða
