Sainte-Sophie, officiellement la Grande Mosquée Sainte-Sophie, est une mosquée et un site culturel et historique majeur d'Istanbul, en Turquie. C'était autrefois une église (360-1453) et un musée (1935-2020). Dernier des trois bâtiments religieux à avoir été successivement érigés sur le site par l'Empire romain d'Orient, il a été achevé en 537 après J.-C., devenant le plus grand espace intérieur du monde et parmi les premiers à employer une coupole entièrement pendante. Il est considéré comme la quintessence de l'architecture byzantine et aurait « changé l'histoire de l'architecture ». De sa dédicace en 360 jusqu'en 1453, Sainte-Sophie a servi de cathédrale à Constantinople dans la tradition liturgique byzantine, à l'exception de la période 1204-1261 où les croisés latins ont installé leur propre hiérarchie. Après la chute de Constantinople en 1453, elle sert de mosquée, avec ses minarets ajoutés peu après. Le site est devenu un musée en 1935, et a été renommé mosquée en 2020.

A very interesting tour which covers all the important parts of the old town of Istanbul. Can our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and great fun. He was happy to answer any questions and made sure everyone in the group was involved. The tour was very interactive and overall a great day!
