Description

Huayna Potosí 6,088 with the Jiwaki agency

The attention from the guides was very good; they were patient and attentive. Very rich gastronomy and good service.

Your ascension at the hands of unmotivated people.

Please do not do it with Jiwoko your ascension will depend a lot on the guide and most of them are good to us. Just looking for tips doesn't matter your purpose. We left them an envelope with money (quite a lot) and we were not thanked by the guide. Doing it with smaller companies I think gets more involved and shelters are less crowded.

Amazing experience

2 day hike to Huayna Potosi was an amazing experience. Incredible views from the peak. Well organized with timing and all the gear. Nice high camp for being 5000m up.

Amazing experience with Jiwaki and guide Ivan!

We had an amazing experience with Jiwaki hiking Huayna Potosi, 3 day trip. Our guide Ivan was the best guidance we could wish for. He is very experienced on the high mountains and very careful with us as an inexperienced couple at these heights. We felt very safe in Ivan’s hands. Would definitely recommend him as a guide!!

Fantastic experience with a safe and organised company!

Great 2 days with Jiwaki. Food and facilities were good and the kit provided was excellent. We had a bit of a wet 2 hour hike from base camp to the high camp and my things got pretty wet including my sleeping bag. I would recommend making sure you have a rain cover or put things in plastic bags! The high camp lodge is cold as there is no heating so make sure you have layers and don't let things get wet. The hike to the summit was tough at times but made so much easier and achievable by my guide Iván. I honestly wouldn't have made it to the top without him and Julie who I was partnered with. My original partner was unable to make it and so I was swapped over at around 5,200m so she could go back down with my original guide. This is a great feature of Jiwaki that they have only 1 guide per 2 people I think it makes the experience feel safer and more personal. It also means that you don't have to go back down with others if they are struggling and you're not. I think this was reflected in the fact that 9 of our group of 11 made it to the summit that morning. And although it was tough the views and sunrise were so very worth it! All in all a fantastic experience with a great company. My highest mountain yet , and so happy to have made it over 6,000m. We spent a while reseraching companies and getting prices. Jiwaki were safe, well organised and competitive with their prices. I highly recommend!

Demanding yet thrilling experience. The view is as spectacular as in the pictures. Recommends Ivan, he’s very thorough!

This was an amazing trip, and really hard if youre doing it in only two days like we did! Our guide Ivan was the best guide to have by our side and thinks of safety first.

Amazing ascension in 2 days with Ivan!!

Jiwaki agency is really great, well organized and professional. Without any doubt I would recommend to go with them. The ascension in 2 days is perfect if you already have experience in mountaineering. We had the pleasure to be guided by Ivan, he was super professional, on top of the latest route to reach the submit safely!! I would reach out to him for any future ascension in Bolivia. Thanks!! 😊

At first bad communication, but guide Ivan did a very good job

Valuing this experience is a difficult choice. Previous communication with jiwaki did not go well. Many questions remained unanswered upon departure and, as a result, there was immediate confusion following departure. In fact, the reason I had chosen jiwaki was that they were the only ones who indicated that they wanted to offer an alternative (French) route to the summit on that date. Anyway, we leave. Swallowing once and doing what you could. To be fair, guide Ivan and his companions were very professional. They adapted well to the group and anticipated a different level/speed. Ivan tried very hard and even though I did not have my best day (combination of altitude sickness and food) we certainly had a good time together!!!

Huayna Potosi for beginners?!

We decided on a 2-day tour of Huayna Potosi with Jiwaki because of the low price and the good reviews and were very satisfied with the organization, accommodation (basic shared room), condition of the equipment (e.g. Petzl crampons and helmet), food and the tour itself. However, we would like to point out at this point that although the guides are trained mountain guides, they do not have internationally recognized certificates (in our experience, a UIAGM guide can be requested for $100 a day, but contrary to our hopes, this did not add any additional benefit in terms of safety and the climb) and often give the impression that the climb is not dangerous. There is hardly any mention of acute altitude sickness here (although participants often suffer from serious altitude sickness), and no questions are asked about preparation, acclimatization or previous experience. Of course, Huayna Potosi is one of the easier 6000m peaks, but it is still a high-altitude tour that requires at least basic experience on the glacier, as some passages have to be climbed or are very narrow and steep. Good physical fitness and sufficient acclimatization (at least a week above 3500-4000m) are also definitely necessary. Unfortunately, during the ascent, our guides hardly took the needs and different levels of the participants into account and did not choose the ascent tactics particularly wisely (e.g. rest areas, paying attention to other groups and the narrow passages). In our opinion (we already have experience of high-altitude tours and are trained high-altitude physicians), the ascent is often taken too lightly. Beginners to high-altitude tours in particular should weigh up the risks carefully and, if necessary, start with easier tours or gain experience with ice training over several days.
