An Unforgettable Horseback Adventure Through the Altai Mountains Maral Expeditions exceeded every expectation and delivered exactly the kind of horseback adventure I had been hoping for. From start to finish, the trip was incredibly well organized, while still feeling relaxed, authentic, and wonderfully unhurried. A huge part of what made the experience so special was Boka. He was funny, accommodating, incredibly organized, and genuinely passionate about what he does. He was with us 100% of the time, from airport pickup all the way through to drop-off, and his attention to detail and enthusiasm made everything feel effortless. The itinerary was also fantastic. We stayed in both Tuva Gers and Kazakh Gers, which gave us a much deeper opportunity to experience and understand Mongolian culture rather than simply passing through. When we were camping, Maral provided cots, sleeping mats, and sleeping bags, so we were much more comfortable than sleeping directly on the ground. At times, it honestly felt more like glamping than camping! Our days had the perfect rhythm: horseback riding through incredible landscapes, then plenty of time to relax, read, or play in the streams. One detail I particularly appreciated was the toilet tent. It even had an actual toilet seat, which was a luxury compared with the squat toilets we encountered elsewhere in the region! Once we had access to the cars and vans, this made things especially comfortable. And then there was the scenery. Absolutely unreal. The Altai Mountains are breathtaking, and riding through those valleys and landscapes felt like something out of another world. But honestly, as spectacular as the scenery was, the organization and coordination were the highlight for me. Everything was handled so smoothly, and Boka's presence, humor, flexibility, and obvious passion made the entire journey feel safe, easy, and genuinely enjoyable. If you're looking for an authentic, adventurous, beautifully organized horseback experience through the Altai Mountains, I cannot recommend Maral Expeditions highly enough. This was an amazing trip! A true adventure! I've traveled a lot in Asia and never been immersed in the local culture so much as I was in Mongolia. I stayed with multiple families, got to see their way of life first-hand, and freely hiked through some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. The drive into the countryside can be a bit rough, and this kind of trip definitely isn't for the faint of heart, but if you're the kind of person to get out of your comfort zone then this trip is for you.
