Great Food Tour

We really enjoyed this food tour! Siu Wai was an excellent guide and gave us a lot of interesting background about Hong Kong. We liked the cultural stops in between tastings (visiting the wet market and the temple) and we were completely stuffed afterwards. We also really appreciated that this was a kid friendly tour and we could bring our two year old with us. Great fun!

Great food and culture tour

Fantastic food and culture tour. Our guide, Siu Wai, took us to very local spots and chose delicious dishes that I wouldn’t have known to try myself. She had a lot of information about the history and culture behind the food, and HK in general. Highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in trying local food and learning about everyday life in HK. Thank you Siu Wai!

Excellent tour

This tour was great! I thought the location was cool, as it was somewhere I had not been to yet and out of the super busy areas, so it was a nice chance to explore some good eats in a new area. The food portions we got were very generous, and every thing we had was delicious and high quality. Our tour guide also kept it very interesting and told us facts about the city and even took us to a temple while we digested our food. I definitely recommend!

Delicious and Informative

We thoroughly enjoyed our Secret Food Tour. Apart from tasting the high quality dishes, the lasting experience for us will be the engaging explanation by our guide Siu of the customs and meaning of the various food preparations, presentations and forms of social gathering. We will leave Hong Kong with a new appreciation of the city and its food culture. We will recommend the tour to our friends who visit Hong Kong.

Come Hungry and Curious!

(July 2026) We had a fantastic food tour with Sandy this morning! I was initially apprehensive when learning that we would be "only" going to 4 places to eat, but let me tell you - the food was excellent and filling! Our guide, Sandy, met us right on time at the Tin Hau MTR station; we stayed within the Tin Hau residential district and learned not only about HK food culture, but history, useful Cantonese phrases, and additional restaurants to check out when we had time. My travel companion and I thought the price/admission fee was an excellent value for the food and tour. We lucked out and were the only ones on our tour; I think these tours can be as large as 10 or 12 people. Sandy was an excellent guide! She spoke well and provided nuanced details about HK food culture; this was not a dine-and-go-to-the-next-restaurant experience. When it made sense, we were able to sit down and have a great conversation about how each restaurant prepared its food. We did not feel we were rushed. One of the last stops was Tin Hau Temple, which is the namesake for the district. We learned about this 200-year old temple's history and how it continues to shape the community. Would love to have Sandy as a guide for a future food tour!

Asian Viewpoint of this tour

The food selection was pretty good, as an introduction to Hong Kong and Cantonese cuisine it will do the job. However, our guide was not the greatest and the group was not really engaged. The guide didn’t allow us to really talk and have an actual conversation with each other or about the food. It felt like we were bombarded with Wikipedia answers with no room to breath and experience the moment. If you are at all familiar with Asian culture and food, this tour isn’t for you.

Thank you for joining our Hong Kong Tin Hau Hidden Gems Food Tour and for sharing your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the food selection and found it to be a good introduction to Hong Kong and Cantonese cuisine. We also appreciate your thoughts on the guiding style. Every guest has a different idea of what makes a memorable food tour. Some enjoy a deeper focus on the stories and history behind each stop, while others prefer a more conversational experience with the group. Our tours are thoughtfully curated to showcase the city’s flavors, local neighborhoods, and the stories behind them, with our guides bringing their own personality and enthusiasm to each experience. While this tour wasn’t the right fit for your preferences, many guests, including those familiar with Asian cuisine, have enjoyed discovering local favorites they might not have found on their own. We hope you’ll consider joining us again on another Secret Food Tour. We’d love the chance to share a different side of the local food scene with you.
