En quittant Auckland à 7 heures du matin, vous ferez un agréable trajet en direction du sud, en passant par les collines de Bombay, pour vous rendre dans les riches exploitations laitières du Waikato, puis en tournant vers l’est. Un court arrêt avec une vue élevée sur la plaine de Hauraki, avec au loin la chaîne de Kaimai Coromandel, constitue une superbe photo de groupe.
C’est un chemin plat qui traverse les plaines en passant par des terres agricoles jusqu’à une usine de produits laitiers désaffectée pour une pause café / thé. À quelques minutes de là, vous trouverez le centre d’information de Matamata, qui ressemble à une maison de hobbit. Ici, vous pouvez prendre une pose avec la statue de Gollum.
Non loin de là, à Hobbiton, où votre guide local vous accompagnera autour du plateau de tournage, qui contient 44 trous pour hobbit, la maison de Bilbo - Bag End, le Moulin et le pont à double arche et son arbre à fête. Pour terminer au Green Dragon, dégustez une bière, un cidre ou une bière au gingembre sans alcool tout en profitant de l'atmosphère. Un buffet de déjeuner suit dans le chapiteau de fête, à côté du Dragon Vert.
En partant de Hobbiton, notre prochaine destination est le lac Karapiro et la centrale hydroélectrique sur la rivière Waikato pour un arrêt photo, avant de traverser le barrage. Le mont Maungatautari (mont Sanctuary), majestueux, s'élève à 797 m d’arrière-plan.
Lorsque vous traversez une petite ville rurale néo-zélandaise et rentre dans le «pays roi», baptisé du nom du Kīngitanga (Mouvement du roi maori), il a suivi ses traces pendant les guerres néo-zélandaises des années 1860. Lors de votre visite guidée de 45 minutes dans la grotte, à Waitomo, vous serez témoin des constellations de minuscules vers luisants, de sa magnifique cathédrale et de ses intrigantes stalagmites et stalactites, avant de sortir de cette grotte calcaire par bateau.

We were thoroughly entertained by our guide Danilo as we wandered around Hobiton. The village itself is an amazing example of imagination and ingenuity. I really loved this place which captured the feeling and tone of scenes from the movies. The video messages seen in the bus to and from really introduced the fondness Jackson has for his country. Well worth the visit.
A great tour would advise everyone to visit this place it is a great day out also called at rotarua hot spring where the meal was cooked in front of you by a moaria lady
Keith was on time to pick us up from our hotel. We were quickly on our way to the attractions that we were interested seeing. We traveled in his Jaguar which was comfortable and pleasant. Keith told us about the areas we drove through, but left the information on Hobbiton and Waitomo to the local guides. I thought we were going to be in a small group tour with others and commentary on where we were going and what we would see, so I was surprised that it was just the two of us with a private driver, not really a tour. We have no complaints about the day, we just were expecting something different. We would recommend Keith to anyone who wanted a private driver. He was kind, courteous, thoughtful and professional. Just be aware of what you are reserving.
