Kangra est une destination populaire située au point de rencontre des rivières Majhi et Bener dans l'État indien de l'Himachal Pradesh. Nichée dans la vallée de Kangra entre la chaîne de Dhauladhar et la chaîne de Shivalik, cette ville est également connue sous le nom de Dev Bhumi, ce qui signifie la demeure des dieux. Le complexe Masroor Rock Cut Temple est dédié à Rama, Laxmana et Sita, des dieux de l'époque de Mahabharata dont les images en pierre sont adorées par des dévots hindous qui viennent du monde entier. Le complexe du temple est construit sur un étang d'eau et situé sur une colline avec une vue panoramique sur le terrain au-delà, y compris les sommets enneigés de la chaîne Dhauladhar.
Le fort de Kangra a été construit par la famille royale Rajput de l'État de Kangra (la dynastie Katoch), dont les origines remontent à l'ancien royaume de Trigarta, mentionné dans l'épopée du Mahabharata. C'est le plus grand fort de l'Himalaya et probablement le plus ancien fort daté de l'Inde. Le fort de Kangra a résisté au siège d'Akbar en 1615. Cependant, le fils d'Akbar, Jehangir, a réussi à maîtriser le fort en 1620, forçant la soumission du Raja de Chamba, «le plus grand de tous les rajas de la région.
Une légende raconte qu'après la déesse Sati s'est sacrifiée en l'honneur du Seigneur Shiva en son père Yagya. Shiva a pris son corps sur son épaule et a commencé Tandav. Afin de l'empêcher de détruire le monde, le Seigneur Vishnu a divisé le corps de Sati en 51 parties avec son Chakra. Le sein gauche de Sati est tombé à cet endroit, ce qui en fait une Shakti Peeth. Le temple d'origine a été construit par les Pandavas à l'époque de Mahabharatha. La légende raconte qu'un jour, Pandavas a vu la déesse Durga dans son rêve dans lequel elle leur a dit qu'elle était située dans le village de Nagarkot et s'ils veulent qu'ils soient en sécurité, ils devraient lui faire un temple dans cette zone, sinon ils seront détruits. Cette même nuit, ils lui ont fait un magnifique temple dans le village de Nagarkot. Ce temple a été pillé un certain nombre de fois par les envahisseurs musulmans. Md Gaznavi a pillé ce temple au moins 5 fois, dans le passé, il contenait des tonnes d'or et de nombreux ghantas en argent pur. En 1905, le temple a été détruit par un puissant tremblement de terre, puis reconstruit par le gouvernement. Explorez le marché local de Kangra pendant un certain temps pour parcourir les produits locaux qui font de grands cadeaux et souvenirs. À la fin de votre visite, vous serez ramené à votre hôtel.

It was an amazing experience. As soon as we reached there it started raining. It's a monolithic structure made out of sandstone.lts a 1000year old temple. There are carvings on walls and doors depicting hindu gods and goddesses. There is a large pond right in front of the temple. Most of the structure has been damaged due to earth quakes in ancient times. It's a must visit temple
This tour was so interesting, I was shown places that I would not have been able to get to see other than taking this tour. My guide Ashok was full of information and stories. I feel that in a day I can understand the area and the people.

Had the best day today. Raj is fantastic at organizing trips. We have had a few issues with other agencies, but Raj has planned everything meticulously. We have ended up doing all our tours in Mcleodganj with Raj and his team. Today we had Mr. Onkar as our guide and Mr. Abishek as our driver. Can not fault this agency or their team. Excellent experience throughout. Mr Abhishek was a very professional and safe driver. My Guide Mr Onkar was another gent, very welcoming and generous with his knowledge. Both really made the trip. Thanks to Raj at Himachal by locals for organizing also!
Although it's a full-day tour, it didn't feel sitting too long in the car. The rock temple was truly amazing, though less impressed by the fort despite its long history. I miss the temple as well, not that I remembered it's in the itinerary anyway, or necessarily thrilled by yet another temple. What made up for it is having the guide, Vikram, taking me to a local eatery (a dabah). Both the guide and the driver Gourav, did a decent job.
I did not know anything about this period and my guide was most knowledgeable. The temple itself was a fascinating structure and well worth the visit.
Fabulous tour that really allowed me to see the countryside in this area. The guide was from Kangra, so he could offer an interesting perspective on playing around the fort etc as a child, and how the area has changed over the years. The rock-cut temple was in a beautifully peaceful place - the story of its creation is fascinating. The fort is very impressive with its hilltop location and views over the rivers, villages and meadows. The temple was a good insight into the religious life of locals - colourful and vibrant.
Interesting visit to Kangra and its fort with the explanations of Mr Vipin that we highly recommend for the quality of his explanations and his command of English making it easy to understand (by Francophones speaking only very rarely). Not to forget the driving qualities of the driver especially with the winding roads of the region.
Had a great day visiting Kangra fort and Rock cut Temple, really interesting sites to visit. Our guide was very knowledgeable. I highly recommend doing this tour for anyone visiting Dharamsala.
