Wish I read some of these reviews ahead of time as there is a theme about not really getting to all of the places that were promised in the description. Apparently, there was some type of Roman holiday on the night we did our tour and 3 of the 5 places were closed. We did way more walking than eating. When I escalated this issue to Viator they told me that the tour delivered on their promises. I was very disappointed they didn't get my any type of refund. I only asked for 35% back (should have asked for more) and got 0% back.
I would highly NOT recommend this tour. The tour description listed below clearly show that you are supposed to visit 7 different food stops. My group only went to 3 of the stops listed below. When I reached out to the tour provider, I was assured I received the "entire experience" because some places were closed and was denied a refund. I understand some restaurants may not have been available on my tour date but to skip over half of the tour and still pay full price? To me, that is not acceptable at all. Our tour guide was not that great either. It was more of a lecture than any true interaction with us. She just walked ahead and talked and really didn't care if we were with her or not. In addition, I would a food tour guide to be able to name the 4 pastas of Rome and she was not able to do so. Out of the 9 of us on the tour, not a single person enjoyed this experience. Tour description: Meet your guide in front of Ristorante La Carbonara in Rome’s Campo de’ Fiori at 5:15pm to start your 5:30pm walking tour. With your guide and group together, you’ll then set off on foot to discover the food of Rome. Work your way past the lively pavement cafes and buskers, and explore the city center while your guide regales you with stories of Roman history and food. Stop for a classic aperitivo of wine and artisan salami, and learn about the salami’s PGI (protected geographical indication), which is also a hallmark of quality Italian food. Sample more PGI produce at a historical cheese shop, and pair the cheese with another wine. You’ll also try a signature Rome dish of baccalà fritto, which is a tasty, salted cod. Visit two other eateries to chow down on crispy pizza — ordered by the slice — and sample supplì, the melt-in-the-mouth morsels of fried risotto rice that are typical Roman fare. After a short walk to work off the food so far, you’ll take a seat in a cozy Trastevere restaurant for a light supper. Tuck into traditional Roman antipasto and two primi (first course) dishes, washed down with two varietals of wine. Finally, you’ll head outside to a gelateria to finish on a high note — with gelato, of course. Your tour ends around 9:30pm, outside the gelateria.
Her: We had a fabulous time this evening! Catia was so friendly and knowledgeable, and helped us with our Italian pronunciation, lol. The food and wine choices were very good, but save room for the gelato because it’s with it! Him: Catia made the whole experience so much fun and entertaining. Her knowledge about the history of the area and Italy as a whole kept both of us involved and she was able to answer any questions we threw her way. The food and wine we had on this tour was also very good but we don’t usually eat a lot so much of it went uneaten because we got full. But, we really enjoyed all of it. To top off the night we were taken to a Gelato place which everyone who takes this tour will thoroughly enjoy. A great end to the evening. All in all we would both highly recommend this tour….especially with Catia as your tour guide.
A perfect evening! Met wonderful people, explored new cultures through food and wine, and ended the night with a delicious sweet treat. An unforgettable experience
Loved this tour! Our guide was great and gave us lots of history. Good amount of walking which was great because the five food stops were all quite generous and delicious. I would highly recommend this tour.
Lots of fun and good food. Guide was knowledgeable and engaging. Small group made experience better.
Thank you for your fantastic review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had lots of fun and enjoyed the food. It’s great to know that our guide’s knowledge and engagement made a positive impact on your experience, and we’re glad you appreciated the small group setting. Your feedback means a lot to us, and we hope to welcome you back for more enjoyable experiences in the future!
Our tour guide was the absolute best! We loved every minute. The food, the history of the neighborhoods, the charm. So lovely.
Francesca was a wonderful guide through our eating experience in Rome. Booked on the same day we arrived to start our vacation. It did not disappoint- plenty of food and wine. Thank you.
Catia was a great guide, lots of information and she accommodated requests of food allergies, etc. Great food, but was surprised there was a lot of fried food.
We ended up with a small group of 6 on this tour and even with the rain, it was a wonderful exploration of flavors. The restaurants selected were located reasonably close, but a bit more walking than was expected. The guide was amazing with her 8 years of hosting tours.
