Ride up was great with Dan, lots of great knowledge of the areas history, plants and animals. And even at that early time of the day, a sense of humor. No sunrise though, but that is hit and miss. Bike ride was great! We enjoyed the “ crater jump” and pose with the bike photo opts, made for good memories. The ride was fast enough to pump the blood and safe enough to calm the heart rate. Rabb was fun and super safe. The food however was a train wreck…. Not only bad tasting, including uncooked meat and “rubber” potatoes, but too long to come out of the micro. I believe the tour guides recommended this restaurant, sorry to say 0 stars.
This experience IS NOT worth the cost!!!....This excursion did not match the advertisement! I also requested to be placed in a van with other family members and Viator would neither cancel and refund me ....but wanted to keep my money if I canceled...this made my experience miserable!!..DO NOT BOOK THROUGH VIATOR,..but call the provider directly!!!!
The early wake up call is well worth it!!!On the way up the volcano we were treated to Hawai’i history story telling. The sunrise was beautiful and it was a wonderful experience with the park rangers singing as the sun rose. From there, we rode down the volcano in an exhilarating experience. So much fun and it was our most favorite day of our vacation.
Hosts were good, although one was long winded and got off onto real tangent about his battle with three bears and a hatchet in Yellowstone...no....not kidding. Problem was the group...the tour let two old people wgo could not ride a bike get on bikes and try. They ended up pulling the plug when it was obvious they could barely get on and off the bikes...let alone the bus. We wasted a ton of time that could have been better spent had they screened these people better. The old man fell gerring off the bus the second stop and cut his arm open. Real disaster. Our group went ahead on the ride as being in the pack was way more dangerous given the inexperience of the riders. It really sucked because we wanted the info that came with the price we paid. Equipment was great. Wish we would have done the ride without the guides and group. Would have been 100x better.
Had a great time. Totally worth it. Remember to bring warm long sleeve clothing for the top and start and then shed layers as the day goes on.
Excellent guides, very knowledgeable about the island. Very safe and super fun.
A great experience!!! The staff was super knowledgeable and we even stopped to star gaze on the way up the mountain, which was amazing. Made it right in time for sunrise which was nice because it was cold so we didn’t have to stand around and wait. We were able to leave our stuff in the van as we biked down the mountain, which was nice because we just got to enjoy the ride. Stopped to take pictures and the group had a great time. Highly recommend!
Guides were well versed and entertaining! Cycling down was amazing- a real thrill. We had ample gear to keep us warm at the top of the volcano. All staff was very safety conscious, which was appreciated. Only negative was the extremely early meeting time. Feel the coordination of meeting and riding up to the top of the volcano could have been more efficient.
The drivers were amazing, as was our guide Dru. We chose the guided tour which was a great choice as we saw many things we would have missed.
5 Stars! So Fun! Well done! I was actually very nervous about the bike ride down some 13 miles…all down hill! Bike Maui is very experienced and they know what they are doing…and, how to assure everyone was safe. It was all so well managed and fun! I’d heard so many stories but our guide, Drew was awesome! Our driver Anthony was great too… protecting us all from the back. If you aren’t good riding a bike…this ride is not for you. You need to know what you are doing. But, if you are, then it’s an amazing experience. I will also add that getting up at 1:30am to do this was not high on my list, but once up there and seeing such a beautiful sunrise at almost 10,000 elevation! So worth it! Esp. with the views of the craters. I’d say it was worthy of a bucket list adventure. I would highly recommend the sunrise trip & Bike Maui and their teams…exp. Drew & Anthony as they made the experience what it was with their awesome personalities and local knowledge.
