We decided to dp the skyrail and Kuranda scenic railway day excursion from Cairns at a spur's moment and did not regret it - the excursion was excellent. The skyrail /cable car takes you from a station some km outside Cairns through and over the jungle to Kuranda, with two stops on the way, At each stop , there is a 200 - 300 meter boardwalk through the forest where you can explore the fauna (birds, butterflies, snakes if you see one). The cable car takes you over the canopy of the jungle, and the views are splendid. Kuranda itself is a nice village with many galleries, including one excellent gallery specializing in aboriginal artwork. The return (departing Kuranda at around 3 30 pm) is a 90 minute ride back to Cairns railway station with the Kuranda scenic railway, a 20-25 km ride in an old train with old railway carriages that winds down the mountain through the forest and some twenty tunnels and bridges. The railway itself was built in the 1880s during the gold rush era in the region, and it is quite an engineering feat in itself. All together an excellent trip .
Thank you for the wonderful review, schmidtg! We’re so pleased your last-minute Kuranda adventure turned into such a memorable day, with the Skyrail journey, time to explore the village and the scenic railway return all adding something special. It sounds like you made the most of the rainforest views, galleries and historic rail experience, and we really appreciate you sharing such a detailed recommendation.
This tour was very well put together complete with itineraries and color pamphlets to help guide us throughout the day. Everything went pretty smooth and the driver was helpful at each stop. Thank you for a great day!
This is a packed day and you won’t have time to see or do everything so plan your must-do sights/activities. The cable car and views from the stops are great. The didgeridoo and boomerang demos are great. The included lunch is horrible, recommend you take your own - lunch let’s this down overall. It would probably be best to do the train as the morning and cable car on way home if you get a choice. The train gets a bit boring and long so doing it last when you are tired from the day makes it worse. Some snatches of great views from the train but lots of stretches of no views and it gets dull.
Sites are amazing, the bus driver was extremely efficient and professional with his services. The tour was self guided but the bus driver gave a lot of information on what to do.
Very rich and complete experience, well organized, and comfortable.
Thank you, Pedro, for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your Grand Kuranda experience and found the day to be well organised, comfortable and packed with memorable experiences. Your kind words mean a lot to our team, and we hope to welcome you back for another Tropic Wings adventure the next time you're in Tropical North Queensland. Safe travels! 😊
Many activities to participate in and plenty to see and do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing all arrangements were perfect Especially the bus drivers information and guidance at every poiny
We were kept informed at all stages. Due to industrial action we did the skyrail first & train return. Picked up near hotel & bus driver told us what to expect & where to be for transfers. There is a lot included & for some of the events it seemed not enough time spent there. But to fit it all in that's how it is. A very enjoyable day. Would recommend.
Wow, this was so good and something that was just amazing. Very well planned day and would recommend to anyone, it's must whilst visiting.
We booked this trip through the Viator App and the whole booking process was easy to follow with subsequent communications being excellent. This trip is excellent value for money and will be one of the best trips you will do on your holiday. You get a Skyrail over the rain forest and through the clouds which is amazing, you walk through part of the rain forest, you see the quaint village of Kuranda, you go to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary which is home to an array of stunning butterflies, you go to the Rainforestation Wildlife Park where you can pet the frendly kangaroos, walk around thr nice Zoo and go on a WWII DUK through the water in the forest, you get to watch an aborigine show and activities as well as trying your hand at throwing a boomerang before returning home on the Kuranda Scenic Railway which is amazing in its own right with beautifull scenery and views of waterfalls. The Bus Driver / Guide for the trip was also very good and explained the itinerary for the day very well. All in all, this is an excellent trip and I would highly recommend it to anybody.
