Une visite de 8 heures qui vous donne beaucoup de temps dehors dans l'air écossais. Cette visite compacte parcourant la région au nord de Glasgow visite le château de Stirling, le monument Wallace, le château de Dumbarton et Luss sur le Loch Lomond. La visite passe un total de 5 heures 50 minutes aux arrêts, avec un total de 2 heures 10 minutes de route.

Quittez Glasgow et dirigez-vous vers l'ouest en direction du Loch Lomond, la première étape de notre visite est le château de Dumbarton qui a la plus ancienne histoire enregistrée de toutes les forteresses écossaises, remontant au Ve siècle lorsque Saint Patrick a envoyé une lettre au roi Ceretic, c'était la première lettre écrite sur une colonie là-bas. Depuis, Viking Kings, William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots et la reine Elizabeth 2 sont là.
En quittant Dumbarton, c’est un court trajet en voiture jusqu’à votre première vue de ‘The Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond’. Ces mots sont tirés de la chanson folk écossaise « You take the High Road and I’ll take the Low Road ». Le Loch Lomond a la plus grande surface de tous les lacs du continent britannique, il fait plus de 23 miles de long. Seulement 10 minutes plus tard, nous nous arrêtons à Luss, l'un des villages les plus populaires d'Écosse à visiter, Marchez devant les jolis chalets de grès et d'ardoise à la jetée pour une vue magnifique sur le Loch Lomond et à travers le loch jusqu'aux montagnes. De la jetée, il est à une très courte distance à pied du cimetière de l'église atmosphérique qui a des tombes datant de 600 AD / 700 AD avec une pierre tombale Viking à dos de porc ainsi.
Notre route vers Stirling depuis le Loch Lomond est particulièrement pittoresque avec de jolis villages, de superbes vues et un arrêt optionnel à la distillerie Glengoyne, disponible si vous le souhaitez. Juste un arrêt rapide pour voir les bâtiments pittoresques, la boutique et la cour pleine de fûts de whisky.
S'approchant de Stirling par l'ouest, le château et le monument Wallace sont visibles d'assez loin. Le château de Stirling est l'un des plus grands et des plus importants châteaux d'Écosse, historiquement et architecturalement. Le château se trouve en hauteur sur un éperon volcanique, gardant le point de passage le plus bas de la rivière Forth. Il y a beaucoup à découvrir et à apprécier dans le château.
Le monument William Wallace À seulement 8 minutes en voiture du château, ce monument emblématique est haut de 220 pieds et situé au sommet de la colline Abbey Craig au-dessus des champs, où en 1297, Wallace a mené ses troupes à la victoire à la bataille de Stirling Bridge. Il y a 276 marches vers le sommet. A quelques minutes en voiture du monument Wallace nous amène au pont de Stirling. L'actuel pont Stirling a été construit dans les années 1400 en remplacement d'une succession de ponts en bois. En 1297, William Wallace battit les forces d'Édouard 1 à la bataille de Stirling Bridge. Aujourd'hui, le pont est l'un des meilleurs ponts médiévaux en arc en maçonnerie d'Écosse.
Une visite à Bannockburn, où, en 1314, le roi Robert le Bruce et son armée ont remporté la plus célèbre bataille de l'histoire de l'Écosse. Une courte promenade à la statue du roi Robert The Bruce avec le château de Stirling en toile de fond vaut la peine. Il y a aussi une expérience de visiteur avec un droit d'entrée. Mike is a fabulous tour guide as well as a driver. Van was new comfortable and Mike himself was accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable and lots of fun. The tour was amazing, every stop full of historical information and terrific photo opportunities. My family of six enjoyed every minute of this tour. Hire Mike you will be very glad you did.

Mike was an awesome tour guide and driver. He knew all the best places to take us and had a wealth of interesting information. We all really enjoyed our tour with him. Mike picked us up at our hotel and spent the full day taking us around the area. We made a stop at the Drymen bakery and deli it was excellent. The village of Luss was nice and we ended up having a great chat with the Minister at the Kirk. Mike was a great guide, knowledgeable and friendly.
Mike gave us a fabulous tour of Glasgow and the surrounding area. The Glasgow Cathedral was stunning, with beautiful stained glass and gothic architecture. The Necropolis had breathtaking views of the city. We saw Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, beautiful Loch Lomond and fabulous gardens. Mike is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area and is quite personable. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with him and learned a lot about Scotland in the process. Best guide we've ever had.
5⭐️ Mike from Private Scottish Tours is a fantastic guide. He provides so much local and historical knowledge of not only Glasgow but of Scotland too. We travelled in his extremely comfortable van to amazing places and we felt like we stepped back in time. Breathtaking Cathedrals, Century old graves, spectacular Castles and stunning countryside. The tour was simply amazing. Mike our tour guide reached out to us well ahead of our tour and asked if there was anything special we would like to include in our tour. I mentioned that I was interested in seeing the area near Loch Lomond of the Buchanan clan which is my mother’s family name. He was prepared! He took us to see so many areas and knew so much of the history. He also took us into the highlands and some of the most amazing views. Lunch at Loch Fyne, the fresh oysters and local Fyne Ale was the icing on the cake. I would absolutely recommend this tour.

Mike was an excellent tour guide. We were only in the area for the day, and he made sure we packed as much in as we could. Whether in city or countryside, Mike was able to provide history from Vikings to movie shoots. His local passion for this beautiful region really shows, and the hole in the wall fish and chips spot on the fjord was the best we had in the UK to top it off!
