Giudecca Island : Visite privée à pied à Venise
Description
Découvrez l'île de la Giudecca en forme d'arête de poisson, connue pour être le septième sestiere non officiel de Venise, autrefois une retraite aristocratique, plus tard le centre industriel de la ville et aujourd'hui un quartier artistique branché. Promenons-nous sur l'île la plus grande et la plus proche de Venise, dont elle est séparée par le large et profond canal de la Giudecca en profitant d'une vue imprenable sur la splendide ville. La tranquillité de l'île l'a également rendue populaire parmi les communautés religieuses et les familles patriciennes qui y ont construit des palais avec de beaux jardins et des lotissements. Vous verrez comment, après la chute de la République, ces quartiers ont été transformés en entrepôts, casernes, prisons, usines et quartiers ouvriers, dont certains sont aujourd'hui convertis à des fins artistiques et modernes. Vous marcherez non seulement à travers le long quai piétonnier sur toute la longueur de son côté face à Venise, mais aussi dans son côté caché face à la lagune avec ses jardins, ses galeries d'art et ses quartiers résidentiels.

L'histoire contestée de la Giudecca commence par son nom. Nous apprendrons que son nom ne vient pas d'une époque juive inhanbitante (un mot italien pour les juifs est aussi Giudei) mais d'un mot vénitien "zudega" signifiant "le jugé", se référant aux familles aristocratiques rebelles bannies ici au 9ème siècle. Ces dernières années, les grands espaces abandonnés ont attiré un nouvel ensemble d'exilés: des artistes, qui ne pouvaient plus se permettre de louer leurs lofts et studios dans le centre de Venise.
Nous visiterons une église de 890 après JC avec une structure vénéto-byzantine simple datée du 14ème siècle. Il porte le nom d'une martyre byzantine chrétienne, qui a été jetée aux lions affamés, qui, après lui avoir mordu la main, ont refusé de manger sa sainte chair vierge.
Nous découvrirons un immense bâtiment néo-gothique, qui servait de moulin à farine alimenté par des bateaux à travers le lagon et fonctionnait également comme une usine de pâtes et qui abrite aujourd'hui un hôtel de luxe 5 étoiles.
Nous nous perdrons dans la partie cachée de l'île, en passant par un marché carcéral bio, adjacent à un centre de correction pour femmes.
Nous entrerons dans un ancien monastère, aujourd'hui centre de promotion des artistes et artisans locaux de toutes sortes.
nous verrons comment une ancienne fabrique de verres s'est transformée en quartier résidentiel moderne et en théâtre contemporain face au lagon sud.
Nous admirerons une église conçue par Palladio, construite pour célébrer la délivrance de la ville de la mort noire. La survie n'est jamais considérée comme acquise dans cette ville de marée et pour rendre grâce chaque juillet, les Vénitiens ont fait le pèlerinage acroos le canal de cette église sur un pont flottant fragile du Zattere depuis 1578
Nous entrerons dans une villa Art Nouveau hors des sentiers battus, profitant d'une vue imprenable sur le lagon sud.
Nous terminerons notre visite avec des vues panoramiques sur San Marco et Punta della Salute, en nous promenant dans un palais avec une façade en briques néo-gothique distinctive et trois fenêtres cintrées particulières.

Not my first time in Venice but definitly my first time on the Giudecca island, we took the tour to get orientated and discover more about the history of the place. We loved the tour and Valerio, our tour guide, did a great job and shared with us a lot of knowledwe and interesting facts. My favourite part was the former flour mill transformed into 5 star hotel, crazy! Grazie Valerio!

We paid for a regular tour, but it ended up being a private tour anyway, which was great, because we could ask lots of questions and get answers from our native Venetian guide. He was ready with everything from restaurant recommendations to reminiscences about growing up in Venice, and gave us his card after so we could call or contact him with any questions we had during the rest of our stay. Also recommended we get the ACTV pass that covered the length of our stay, which was super convenient for getting around during the rest of our trip. The tour itself was mostly an outdoor walking tour, though we did go in a church and an artist's studio. The studio was in a cloister turned artist colony. We got to see real Venetian neighbourhoods, with kids having birthday parties, cats roaming, and residents raising ducks. It was a great break from the narrow, crowded streets around St. Mark's that most tourists stick to. Our guide kept saying, this is what Venice was like in the 1950s, and it's more sustainable to have tourism spread out over the city, rather than everyone concentrating on the same three sites. Great slice of life tour. My only suggestion would be, when meeting tour groups, have a small A4 sign with the tour company name printed on it so people can spot the guide more easily. (We ended up calling him even though we were standing very near each other - it's the Zattere ACTV stop, not the Alilaguna one that you meet at.) Would recommend tours like this to anyone staying in Venice on more than just a day-trip.

However we believe a sign will bring no added value, considering groups are always private or very small, the guide is always on time making sure that guests are reaching the meeting point by sending google maps links, the guide is wearing a clear guide badge and we have mobile phones!
It was a beautiful tour, informative and much to discover. Interesting places , beautiful palazzi and a parking garage for boats! Valerio gave us two carefree hours and also found shady places. For us, the days on Giudecca were much nicer, you saw a lot, away from the hustle and bustle in Venice at that time. we can definitely recommend the tour to all curious like us. The tour is interesting and stimulating; Valerio knows his city perfectly and entertains with details that are not those of the usual sightseeing tours. The Giudecca hides many unique corners worth visiting, and the guide knows how to entertain with great kindness, sympathy and preparation.
