Excursion d'une journée à Petrópolis depuis Rio de Janeiro

This was a great tour! The communication from the operators was good and our guide, Plinio, was excellent. Something to note is that the Crystal Palace is more like a large greenhouse, not an actual palace where people lived. This trip does not include a guided tour of the Imperial Palace, which I would have liked. However, I enjoyed the free time that let me visit a ceramics museum. Plinio was very helpful and impressive with his mastery of English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Overall the tour was very nice because Petropolis is absolutely worth it. The price-quality ratio is very good considering that lunch is also included. The guide was nice but I had requested the English language and she spoke almost exclusively in Portuguese with some brief digressions in Spanish. I did not understand anything. This should have been specified at the time of booking. Luckily I had a good guidebook with me brought from Italy and I read the essentials. As for the pickup, terrible judgment. Viator, the intermediary, told me to go to a hotel not on the drop-down list and to be there at 7:45 AM because the bus with the group would pick me up. Recontacting Viator once I arrived at the hotel (reached by Uber) they told me that the bus would pass by at 9:30 AM! And that there was no trace of my chats from the day before! Since Viator is the only contact on the tour's TripAdvisor page, do not contact Viator but rather the tour operator directly, which is Pepe Rio Tours, Copacabana, RJ tel 021 97415-3068

Most of the stops were good, some were not for me personally. Guide was very good. Lunch was delicious.

Today I did a full-day tour in Petrópolis and I will tell my experience. The pick-up was perfect, at the time, the new and well-hygienized van but the highlight was the sympathy, education and knowledge of the tour guide (Cleiton) that made a long trip less boring, telling us about the whole history of the city and the imperial family. Arriving in the city we encountered the spectacle of beautiful landscapes and spectacular houses, the tourist spots visited are a prime work, it is a formidable legacy left by the Portuguese family. Not leaving behind, the food and service of the restaurant Grill Copacabana in Petrópolis are wonderful, has food options for all tastes: barbecue, salads, Japanese, etc. Note 10, I recommend for those who like historic tour. Petropolis is a lovely city and the trip from Rio is quite enjoyable. The lush forests and mountains make the journey very pleasant. There is much to see and do in Petropolis. The city itself is quite picturesque with lagoons, mountains and well maintained gardens. The lunch was amazing. However, the guide could not speak English, making communication rather challenging. The tour organizers should make sure that the guide can speak the language needed for the tour participants.

The experience was far below what we expected. Two extremely inconvenient points: my girlfriend and I were invited to get up from the armchairs by a couple of brothers after returning from the first stop. There were no marked places and they thought they were, I explained the situation to the guide who used an unhappy speech and even suggested that we rise from places that were not marked. The second point was lunch time, almost at 15:00, so there was very little food, it was still necessary to bake last minute meat that took a long time.

The worst day trip I've ever taken. Pick-up took an hour and a half, and I wasn't even the first person on the bus. We spent a full half an hour at a roadside rest stop that was meant to be a bathroom break, then an hour at a shopping mall. We drove past Quitandinha Palace at a distance and didn't even stop for photos. We waited for an hour to spend 15 minutes inside the Imperial Museum. The Cathedral was an after-thought - we drove past it at a distance several times during the day, but didn't stop until after dark, at which time there was a wedding happening so we couldn't actually go in and see the Cathedral. Because we spent over an hour at a random mall, Crystal Palace was already closed by the time we arrived, so we couldn't go in and see that either. We drove past the Brewery, but stopping wasn't even mentioned as an option Absolute disaster of a tour, and I do not recommend it. 13 hours of wasted time and doing nothing. I'll be asking for my money back.
