National Museum est classé parmi les plus importants d'Afrique subsaharienne, et de loin le point culminant est l'exposition paléontologique au sous-sol, la maison de Lucy mondialement connue. Sa découverte en 1974 dans la région de l'Afar, au nord-ouest de l'Éthiopie, a changé à jamais notre compréhension des origines humaines. Voici également les preuves fossilisées de quelques créatures étonnantes disparues, comme l'Homotherium félin massif à dents de sabre et le gargantuesque cochon de savane Notochoerus. La périphérie du rez-de-chaussée se concentre sur les périodes pré-aksoumite, aksoumite, salomonienne et gonderienne. Le large éventail d'objets comprend une lampe à huile élaborée en bronze datant d'avant le Ier siècle après J.-C. montrant un chien poursuivant un bouquetin, une fascinante chaise taillée dans la roche du IVe siècle avant J.-C. arborant des bouquetins mythiques, et d'anciennes inscriptions sabéennes. Au 1er étage, il y a une exposition vivante d'art éthiopien allant du parchemin du début (peut-être du XIVe siècle) aux peintures à l'huile sur toile du XXe siècle réalisées par des artistes modernes de premier plan.
Le Musée ethnographique d'Addis-Abeba est l'un des meilleurs musées ethnographiques d'Afrique de l'Est. Il fait comprendre aux visiteurs tout sur les différents groupes culturels d'Éthiopie avec son grand affichage qui se concentre dans le cycle de vie - de la naissance à la mort. L'histoire, la religion, la culture alimentaire et les faits naturels du pays sont si bien décrits.
Mercato est le plus grand marché de plein air non seulement à Addis-Abeba ou en Éthiopie, mais dans toute l'Afrique. Les parties incontournables de Merkato comprennent le marché aux épices, le marché des paniers faits à la main et le marché des articles d'occasion.
Le parc naturel Entoto domine la capitale et est un sanctuaire historique. Nature de l'époque antique voilée. un endroit unique pour découvrir la nature de montagne ancienne la plus époustouflante, avec des ruisseaux coulant de sources claires et des cascades.
Commandée par l'empereur Ménélik II pour commémorer sa stupéfiante défaite de 1896 contre les Italiens à Adwa, et dédiée à saint Georges (patron de l'Éthiopie), dont l'icône a été portée dans la bataille, cette cathédrale de la Piazza est l'une des plus belles églises d'Addis. L'extérieur en pierre grise est facilement surpassé par les éclats de couleur et d'art de l'intérieur. Des pans de plafond brillent d'un bleu ciel et arborent des étoiles dorées, tandis que les murs extérieurs du sanctuaire le plus intérieur sont recouverts de peintures et de mosaïques du célèbre Afewerk Tekle. L'église, construite en forme octogonale traditionnelle et avec un style néoclassique sévère, a été achevée en 1911 avec l'aide d'artistes grecs, arméniens et indiens. L'impératrice Zewditu (en 1916) et l'empereur Haïlé Sélassié (en 1930) ont tous deux été couronnés ici.

This was an excellent way to see the highlights of Addis Ababa. Dagi was an excellent guide. The highlight was seeing Lucy! We enjoyed everything about the day. The traditional Ethiopian lunch was a great way to introduce us to real Ethiopian food. Thanks Dagi for a great day.

I have a great time touring city of Addis Ababa on Nov 29 2025. The guide Dagi pick me up from hotel lobby on time. He is fluent in English. He possesses an easy going personality. He has great knowledge of Ethiopia and Addis Ababa on history, culture and current affairs. He explains things very clearly. I gain a lot knowledge from him by listening and asking questions. We have a traditional Ethiopian meal and coffee which is a plus for the exposure of the Ethiopian culture. The driver Suta is polite and professional. He keeps the car clean and comfortable. When I try to take photos from the road, he always slow down and find a good spot for me. His driving skill makes me feeling confident. In addition, he is fairly good in English. He can also provide some valuable insights of Addis Ababa. I highly recommend the tour without reservation.

We took our tour with Teddy and Sultan. Teddy is very knowledable about Ethiopian History and an excellent guide. Our tour included the Mercato, the palace of the Emperor Haile Selassie, coffee house and a traditional Ethiopian Meal at a local coffee house/restaurant. Very personalized and we had a great time. We had the most incredible experience with Armaye Ethiopia tours. With the recommendation of my friends who live in Germany, we contacted Armaye to book a layover tour of Addis Ababa. Armaye really knows a lot about the country, people and history. We were picked up and dropped off at the airport on time. We enjoyed Ethiopian food in a good traditional restaurant. Everything went according to our schedule. The highlight for me was the national museum of Ethiopia where our ancestor Lucy is. In addition to the sights on the list, we even got to immerse ourselves in the culture by having coffee and traditional food with the locals.
