It was a great adventure! I recommend it to everyone. Regarding the equipment - you must use it when driving a snowmobile. When you are with the animals it is not so necessary. We were very lucky to see the northern lights, keep in mind that this is a natural phenomenon that does not depend on the guides.
First day was brilliant ,snowmobile, huskies and reindeer were very nice experience . Stopping at Santa village for visit the village experience including seeing Santa And later at night hunting northern lights if u were very lucky you may see some activities! Second day may be they could add something more to the day not just the visit to the zoo
I booked this as a way to get the maximum amount of experiences in a short time and this tour is great as a set of taster experiences. My day started with collection from my hotel and I was taken to get dressed for snow mobiling. The office was pure chaos (it was the end of Dec) and it would have been useful to have clearer instructions / an itiniery for the day. For example, I brought water which I left in the changing rooms so as not to carry on the snow mobile, but I didn't realise I wouldn't see that til after ALL activities were complete so I was very thirsty by the end of the day. No water was provided during the day. The snow mobiles were great fun with clear instructions. The track is very bouncy and it's quite hard work - something to bear in mind. You need to be able to hold on! The reindeer and husky rides were magical but very short - once round a small track. If this is important to you I would book separate trips, this is really just a taster. Lots of waiting around too. The time in Santa's village is your own and not worth paying for if you are planning your trip. There is free transport from Rovaniemi to the village and you can do this yourself. Sadly I didn't see the Northern Lights but my tour guide was really friendly and provided lots of information so it was still a fun night. The trip to Ranua Zoo was great fun but probably overpriced, especially if you are booking for a family. There's no guide etc. so you're essentially paying for a bus ride, warm clothing, and zoo entry. The zoo visit itself was 1.5 hours + 1 hr for lunch (not provided) and it's around an hour and 15 mins from Rovaniemi. As you travel as a large group, there is a LOT of waiting around an unnecessary travel.
Beware. Got time on my hands so writing a big report! We did the two day trip incorporating snowmobiles, reindeer, huskies (daytime day one), northern lights (separate event- evening day one) and Ranua zoo (day two). Overall it was certainly worth doing. We were moving to different hotel for the second day and the operator was able to accommodate this in their pick ups. This was impressive considering the amount of different tours they are operating at the same time and the logistical demands. Whatsapp messages worked well. This is how you are informed of your specific pick up times for each part of the tour. These messages seemed to come the day before the activity. Each event starts with everyone going to one of the operator's offices to get 'all in one' snow suits, boots etc. The actual trip starts from there. You can leave your own clothes at this point if not needed for the trip. (Beware, if keeping snow suits for day 2 it may start/end at a different initial office which means better not to leave own kit at end of first day.) The trips themselves: Snowmobiles very good. Lasts about an hour which is long enough. Everyone doubles up. Must remember driving licence for anyone doing the actual driving. Then everyone gets bus to next activities: Reindeer ride- 5 mins- slow and gentle. Nice. Husky ride- 3 mins- fast and thrilling. Really good. Also information chat from reindeer herder and some hot juice and biscuits. Then dropped back to initial office which is at Santa Claus Resort and you get 2 hours to wander around. This is ok. Plent to buy, plenty to eat. Plenty of people. If you wantbto see Santa you have to sort that yourself- moost likely sometime beforehand judging by the queue. Then dropped back to accommodation about 6pm. Pick up at about 8pm for Northern Light search. Be aware is a lot of driving with very little certainty of success. And if you can see the lights most likely they will be misty white and only green if seen through camera lens. Includes some hot juice and busicuits around a fire. Can get cold whilst standing around looking at the sky but the van remains nearby so can get back on. Back to accomodation 11ish. Tired. Day 2-Ranua. Less hectic day. Pick up for us was 9am to take us to office meeting/changing point. Lots of people coming in different vans from different accommodation. Didn't leave until about 10:30 on coach to zoo. About 1 hour journey. Zoo was nice and quiet. Saw a few animals, though some were tucked away. Three hours was long enough for walk around and some lunch in the buffet restaurant. Coach back to that day's meeting point for about 4ish. Guides were all good and helpful. 'Central Admin Desk' was pretty responsive by phone and WhatsApp. Kit was good. Pick ups were all on time. Last thing...Was a little confused because booked through Viator but local operator was 'Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park'. Confirmation from Viator made it appear it was all booked and confirmed, but then noticed paragraph at bottom of confirmation that seemed to say I had to confirm booking with operator directly. When I asked Viator about this there was some difficulty finding my booking. They suggested I contacted local operator which I did and after some delay they seemed to find the booking. I am not totally sure it would have all gone to plan if I hadn't done this. Bottom line...maybe double check with local operator after getting Viator confirmation. The tour isn't cheap and last thing you want is to find out on the day you aren't on their list!
There was little communication when we arrived about how the day would run. The snowmobile was fun and a decent amount of time. However, the husky sled ride and the reindeer sled ride were about 5 minutes each, very disappointing. I believe the tours were overbooked, and we felt they were just trying to get through the day as quickly as they could. Staff were friendly when asked questions but didn't really proactively offer that much information. I think this was because the groups were so large. The Zoo was nice, lively walk in nature. Unfortunately, there were a lot of animals in hibernation. However, this was understandable for this time of year. The Northern lights part was lovely, our guide Wil was very friendly and we went to some different places to try and see them. But nature was in control and it was very foggy so unfortunately we didn't get to see them.
Snowmobile husky and reindeer , Santa village also perfect , Ronua wild park I like it. Kind regards Andrei
Take advantage of the warm clothes provided and bundle up for a fun trip around Rovaniemi. The snowmobile adventure was fun, and the husky and reindeer farm was great. The zoo was amazing and offered a lot of different animals to see. We skipped out on our Northern Lights search due to the weather and the cold but overall the 2day experience was great!
They sent a WhatsApp message asking us to confirm pick up time for the northern lights tour segment of the activities and THEY DID NOT SHOW UP. I sent them several messages asking if they were on the way as I could see they were still online, I made phone calls, they did not reply or answer. This was truly very disappointing as this was the only evening during our trip in which the forecast for seeing the aurora was good. No apology the following day, nada. We asked for a refund, no reply. Do not recommend. Zero stars if possible.
This is a FANTASTIC tour! We visited Rovaniemi for a 3 day weekend trip (early Friday - late Sunday). We were keen to do and see as much as possible. This tour gave us the chance to try everything, without feeling too rushed. The tour operator ran things extremely smoothly, we had great communication from them and also they were very flexible to ensure drop offs at the end of the excursions were as convenient as possible (so appreciated!) We stayed in the centre of town and the tour office was a short 10 min walk, making it super easy. I had been skeptical that the individual activities wouldn't feel long enough, but we enjoyed each aspect and if you're keen to do a little of everything it is GREAT VALUE! I do agree with the pro-tip from other reviews, pack some snacks for the days. The tour operator provides great quality snow gear, including boots & snowsuits - perfect for those traveling with a carry on!
My favorite part of the tour are snowmobile, husky and reindeer sleigh ride. It's my first time to try the ride 😊. I really recommend to try it.
