Ce centre de pèlerinage marial évoque les apparitions de Notre-Dame aux trois bergers Lúcia, Francisco et Jacinta, survenues en 1917 et reconnues en 1930. Le lieu était une propriété rurale, appelée Cova da Iria, et appartenait aux parents de Lúcia, qui ont parrainé au sanctuaire. C'est ici qu'ont eu lieu cinq des six apparitions. Le sanctuaire comprend la chapelle des Apparitions, la basilique Notre-Dame du Rosaire, la salle de prière et la basilique de la Sainte Trinité. Le sanctuaire est complété par les maisons de retraite de Notre-Dame des Douleurs et de Notre-Dame du Mont Carmel ainsi que par le Centre pastoral Paul VI. C'est l'un des sanctuaires mariaux les plus importants appartenant à l'Église catholique au monde et l'une des principales destinations internationales du tourisme religieux, recevant environ six millions de visiteurs par an. Il a été visité par les papes Paul VI (1967), Jean-Paul II (1982, 1991 et 2000), Benoît XVI (2010) et François (2017 et 2023).
A quelques minutes du Sanctuaire se trouve Valinhos, un petit village où vivaient les enfants et leurs familles et où ils partaient pour emmener les animaux en grâce, extrêmement bien conservé. Aujourd'hui, Nazaré est aussi connue pour ses vagues géantes, oui les plus grosses vagues du monde se trouvent ici au Portugal. Il est temps de traverser l'un des plus beaux villages du Portugal, entre les murs d'un château médiéval. We had a lovely day trip with Anastasia to the various places at a comfortable pace in a car. We were able to spend a good amount of time on our own at Fatima which was the main focus for the trip. We learned a lot from Anastasia about the various locations we visited as well as Lisbon and Portugal. Overall a great day outside of Lisbon to experience different parts of Portugal.

Amazing experience! Yesterday we did a private tour with the guide João visiting Fatima, Valinhos, Nazaré and Óbidos, and it has been, without doubt, the best private excursion we have had in all our trips around the world. João was simply spectacular: super punctual, friendly, fun, patient and with an impressive knowledge of the history, culture and curiosities of Portugal. Fantastic tour of several Portugal cities and their sites. João picked us up at our hotel early in the morning, and we spent the entire day checking out all the import sites from Fatima to Nazare and Obidos. João was a wealth of knowledge about everything throughout Portugal, as well as the religious and cultural sites. We were dropped back off at our hotel in the early evening. What a great tour!! There are no words to describe how much we loved this tour. Anastasiya is a Sweet Cover and an excellent guide. We went to Valinhos and Fatima, with a pass through beautiful Nazareth. The friendly Vila de Óbidos got to the final with the purchase of the mandatory ginjinha. But the highlight of the tour was the Battle Monastery, which is of unparalleled beauty. We were full of hearts and our phones were full of photos. Five stars.

Me and my family enjoyed this tour immensely. Anastasia was great! She is very knowledgeable of the history of all the places and also shared a lot of great stories that you wouldn’t normally read in the books. She was also very flexible and accommodating with the time you want to spend in each of the places. And she provided a lot of tips and suggestions on other places and products. She went above and beyond. We will definitely be booking more tours with the tour operator in the future. If you’re looking for a day tour that allows you to cover a lot of places without being rushed, I highly recommend this!
