I recently completed the 4-day Mai Chau, Pu Luong, and Ninh Binh tour, and it was hands-down the highlight of my time in Vietnam. If you want to get away from the chaos of the city and see the "real" Northern countryside with zero stress, this is the trip to book. Perfectly balanced and what I loved most about this itinerary was the pace. Often, short trips feel like you’re constantly rushing on and off a bus, but this felt different. We had ample time to actually breathe in the scenery. One moment we were trekking through the emerald rice terraces of Pu Luong, and the next we were relaxing and taking in the limestone karsts of Ninh Binh. It struck that rare, perfect balance between active exploration and peaceful relaxation. Our guide Aiden was knowledgeable, attentive, and fun! His expertise was second to none—he knew every hidden viewpoint and the best local spots for a meal. Beyond his knowledge of the history and geography of the region, he was incredibly attentive to the group's needs, ensuring everyone was comfortable and having a great time. His energy was infectious and he really went above and beyond to make sure we felt like guests rather than just tourists. He makes the best coffees and it made my trip having a personalized coffee delivered each morning. Mai Chau: Staying among the White Thai people was such a cultural treat. The valley is stunning and the walks through the villages were relaxing and nice after so many days in bustling cities. Pu Luong Nature Reserve: This felt like a hidden paradise. The terraced fields are beautiful without the massive crowds. Ninh Binh: The boat trip through the Trang An landscape was surreal—it truly felt like moving through a movie set. From the incredible food to the seamless logistics, everything was top-notch. If you’re looking for a short but deeply immersive experience in Northern Vietnam, don’t hesitate. I couldn't have asked for a better guide or a more beautiful introduction to these regions!

We are 4 friends that chose a 3 day tour visiting Mai chai, Pu Luong, and Ninh Binh with our guide Sara. Sara was a fantastic guide-friend that was consistently fun and made excursions interesting. We spent a wonderful 4 day tour with our guide Brian. The hotels were all good, from homestay with slightly simpler amenities to a hillside resort with fantastic views. The tours were pleasant and we saw a lot of the scenery, they were easy to master and varied. Nevertheless, there was always enough time at leisure. We would definitely recommend the tour to get a basic overview of the regions and always feel in good hands.

I did a 4 Day tour, and everything was super well organized, comfortable transport, a good balance of sightseeing and free time, and just overall really enjoyable. My guide Sarah was a young, energetic, funny, and full of knowledge lady. She not only explained me about the places but also shared insights about Vietnamese culture, traditions and modern life. Thanks to her, I even got the chance to go to a college students’ gala dinner, something I’d never have experienced without a local! About the 3 area visited... Mai Chau was lovely for meeting locals and exploring the countryside. Pu Luong was beautiful with stunning rice fields, an amazing ecolodge with a pool and incredible views, super friendly staff, and fun trekking from jungle to cave, rice fields, and small waterfalls. Ninh Binh was probably the highlight, what a special place! I’d recommend staying longer there, as there’s a lot to see and it’s not far from Hanoi.

Excellent experience of different areas. Agriculture, temperature and experiences. Our guide Brian/Hoang was very knowledgeable, he was attentive to all members of our group. Preempting needs and special requirements, to help with my mobility. Also asked about dietary needs and any other requests. Accommodation and activities/relaxation balance suited us perfectly. Would recommend this trip, as a break from City sights.

We thought the build-up of the trip was well done, from beautiful to even more beautiful. The welcome at Mai Chau Rustic Home was most cordial and Madam made the most delicious lunch ever! Good cook! The stay at Pu Luong was lovely, again in a beautiful location with people who understand what hospitality means. Ninh Binh is much bigger than you think and beautiful. Our guide Brian/Hoang was very caring and a pleasant travel companion during our four days. We could ask anything and he told us about it extensively. He even gave tips for after we said goodbye. And even after we said goodbye, he did follow-up care to make sure everything was going well and we had arrived well.

Highly Recommended. Our trip was a personalised experience with Tyan who was a fantastic guide. He attended to entry to any attractions and we didn’t have to wait around in queues or try and figure out where to go. It was a very authentic Vietnamese mountain region trip without lots of tourists. Every day was varied and the accommodation and food was good. All food except dinner and drinks was included.

Overall the trip was great! The Pu Luong Eco resort was stunning, as was the hike we did there. Trang An Ecolodge was also excellent, and the boat trip there was superb. I was told by the company that the Trang An ecolodge was full and was rebooked to a different lodge, and when I showed them in Booking that there was a room available, they agreed to move me to the Ecolodge. Our homestay in Mai Chau (called Rustic something) was not at all on par with the other hotels. While Mai Chau has many wonderful lodging and home stay options, ours was in the wrong part of Mai Chau and didn’t at all reflect “deluxe” lodging while the other 2 lodgings we stayed at did reflect deluxe. Tyan, the tour coordinator, was extremely attentive to our needs, and reacted quickly to every request. He did everything to make us feel comfortable and happy!
