Dans la ville haute, nous visitons l'église profitis ilias, un monument pouf, l'église osios david, le monastère de Vlatadon et d'autres lieux cachés. Nous parlons d'un grand feu, les Τurks, les Juifs, le mt Olympus, la mythologie grecque, un chef-d'œuvre religieux de l'art, la musique (rebetico), St paul, l'histoire des réfugiés grecs de Turquie et d'autres histoires. À travers cette visite, nous allons sentir l'âme de ce quartier, nous allons découvrir pourquoi cette région est si spéciale et pourquoi les habitants l'aiment tant! Nous allons littéralement voyager dans le temps, pour voir comment était Thessalonique dans le passé mais aussi comment est maintenant. Nous allons visiter l'une des plus anciennes églises de la planète et admirer les chefs-d'œuvre les plus uniques de l'art chrétien, une mosaïque à couper le souffle.

Nous allons parler de la musique grecque et plus précisément d'un genre musical qui s'appelle Rebetiko, l'un des joyaux de la culture grecque ! Un petit spectacle musical a lieu !
Nous allons visiter l'un des monastères les plus anciens de la ville, où nous parlerons de Saint Paul et de sa présence à Thessalonique !
Nous allons parler de la période ottomane turque de la ville, en expliquant par la même occasion un monument ottoman. Nous allons également parler des relations gréco-turques actuelles.
Dans cet arrêt, nous parlerons des anciens murs de Thessalonique et nous réaliserons quelle était la taille de Thessalonique dans le passé et quelle est sa taille actuelle.

Giorgio's tour was absolutely fantastic! He is very nice and has a tremendously rich knowledge of all subjects, territories, history, religion, church. He also answers all questions on each topic. He also has a fine sense of humor and on top of that he played bouzouki and sang along the way. A city tour couldn't be better. He is highly recommended. Ευχαριστώ πολύ!!
Amazing experience with George in the picturesque and quiet Old Town/Ano Poli. Full of history, tidbits, and insights from a local you would be hard pressed to discover on your own. Highly recommended!
We liked the city of Thessaloniki thanks to the skill of our guide. Giorgos is a very cultured boy who, with his stories, took us into the most intriguing meanders of Thessaloniki history. During the visit he was able to make us imagine the various eras that gave prestige or decadence to the city. His anecdotes and stories have captured and kept our attention alive. The gem was the musical parenthesis during which he played the bouzouki and sang songs related to Rebetiko. Highly recommended!!!!
Georgios was the best guide! He was accommodating when we had an issue before the tour, courteous and very informative the entire tour! We learned many things we didn’t know about the history and culture of Greece and specifically Thessaloniki. He was able to answer all our questions, and let us walk at our pace. The hidden gems he showed us were the highlights of the tour! We highly recommend this specific tour as it takes you to the real neighborhood with real Greeks just living life and loving one another. So for us, it was very authentic!
What a delightful surprise to learn Thessaloniki has another town hidden from plain view! Giorgos’s tales of upper town, its little secrets, incredible art, and long history were unveiled before us as he took us behind the wall to learn of its delights. We enjoyed every bit , and even the neighbors came out to share a song with him as he serenaded. Highly recommend!
Loved the tour and the guide! Georgios was the best. He accommodated us when we had an issue the day before, met us on time but most of all gave us a wonderful tour of the somewhat unknown upper town of Thessaloniki and some hidden gems along the way! We highly recommend him for your guide and if you love history and interesting facts about the ruins and churches and culture and history you will love this tour and Georgios. All the beautiful kitties, we met along the way, and especially his friend who followed us quite a distance were just an extra bonus!
Giorgos/George is funny, engaging, but above all knowledgeable! We had no idea what to expect - from the tour, from Saloniki, or from Greece - as this was our very 1st visit to the country and our 1st place within Greece. Giorgos helped us quickly fall in love with Thessaloniki, the culture, the history, the people... and of course the food!! His Ano Poli tour is not to be missed and will help make all your travels through the city (and throughout Greece) more robust.
Giorgos loves his city and the stories he tells reflect this. His presentation was both entertaining and informative. My husband and I are history buffs, Giorgos’ knowledge and perspective really added to our understanding of the history of this diverse city. We visited Ano Poli with Georgios and we liked it very much. It is a rich, interesting and full of surprises. Georgios knows everything about his city, from the reason for the cut off ears of cats to the small Byzantine church and its secret. We highly recommend this tour, also with children.
We had an amazing time in upper town with Giorgos. He recalled everyone’s name in our party of 9 and always addresses each person directly, such a great personal touch. His knowledge of the history of Thessaloniki was incredible. He was also great at tailoring the experience to our group.
