We had a private market tour and noodle making class with Michael 常. It was incredible! I usually live in Guangzhou and have wanted to learn to make homemade noodles, but haven't had the opportunity. Biang biang was the perfect kind of noodle to learn because they use simple ingredients and the wide flat shape makes them easy to make by hand without breaking. Michael took us to the market where we picked out all the ingredients for the meal. He is very knowledge and his English is perfect. He taught us how to make the noodles, the sauce, and two side dishes. The whole time we were able to ask him all the questions we could think of about the food in Xi'an. The noodles were delicious. By my 6th noodle I had the hang of it. Afterwards Michael gave us recommendations for the best way to visit the terracotta army, and for several places to eat on Xi'an. I am so glad I booked this early in my trip! I can't recommend highly enough.
Michael started our day with a trip to the local street markets to obtain some produce as well as learn about a few of the more unusual items for sale! Following this we had a fun experience creating our own dish under his expert guidance before tucking into our well deserved lunch. If you enjoy doing something a little different during your time in Xi’an then I’d highly recommend giving this experience ago.
Lily and Michael were so accommodating in this class! There aren’t too many tourists to Xi’an at the moment, so they invited me to their house. Michael met me in town and took me to the local market to buy ingredients, then we went to their house, where I learned to make biang biang noodles. They also prepared some other dishes (spinach noodles, century eggs, and a pork jelly dish) for me to try. They were so friendly, and I will definitely try to make the noodles again! I would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Xi’an who enjoys food!
My boyfriend came to visit me in China where I live (I am American). We took the noodle making class. We were the only two people which made it a nice fun experience with Lily and the chef at the restaurant. Beautiful restaurant and great experience making and then eating what we made. Lily was warm and accommodating even when I needed to adjust our times to meet and leave. Would highly recommend.
