Cette visite visite visite deux sites importants du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO qui présentent des aspects clés de l'histoire de la Grèce antique. Commencez par les Thermopyles, le célèbre col étroit où en 480 av. J.-C., le roi Léonidas et sa petite troupe de guerriers spartiates ont pris position légendairement contre l'armée d'invasion perse, incarnant courage et sacrifice. Ensuite, explorez Delphes, autrefois considérée comme le centre du monde dans la culture grecque antique. Sur ce site sacré, vous verrez le temple d'Apollon, où la Pythie, l'oracle, a livré ses prophéties. Promenez-vous dans l'ancien sanctuaire dédié à Athéna et au Trésor des Athéniens, qui abritait de précieuses offrandes. Le monument Leonidas commémore la bataille de 480 av. J.-C. au cours de laquelle un petit groupe d'environ 300 soldats spartiates a repoussé une énorme armée perse pendant trois jours.
Le champ de bataille des Thermopyles est la surface terrestre sur laquelle la célèbre bataille a eu lieu en 480 avant JC. Où les Spartiates ont fait leur dernier combat avec le corps de leur roi Léonidas contre Xerxès et son armée perse.
Les Thermopyles peuvent être traduits par « Portes Chaudes », une référence aux sources chaudes volcaniques près de cette ville grecque. Juste en face du monument de Léonidas de Sparte se trouve une zone volcanique abritant plusieurs sources chaudes sulfureuses. Selon les Grecs de l’Antiquité, ces sources étaient considérées comme une porte d’entrée vers les Enfers (Hadès). Il est en outre mentionné dans la mythologie grecque antique comme le lieu où le héros grec Héraclès a lavé le poison de sa bataille légendaire contre l'Hydre, transformant ainsi les eaux en sources chaudes.
Le temple d'Apollon est le bâtiment le plus important du sanctuaire d'Apollon à Delphes. Au centre se dresse le temenos, l'élément le plus remarquable du temple. Elle est célèbre pour l'oracle qui y résidait, où les pèlerins du monde entier venaient se faire prédire l'avenir.
Le Tholos de Delphes fait partie des anciennes structures du sanctuaire d'Athéna Pronaia à Delphes. Il fait partie du site de Delphes classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
Le stade de Delphes se trouve sur le point culminant du site archéologique de Delphes. Il surplombe le sanctuaire d'Apollon et offre une vue sur le paysage delphique. Il a été construit au 5ème siècle avant JC mais il a été reconstruit à plusieurs reprises au cours des siècles qui ont suivi.
Le théâtre antique de Delphes est situé dans le temple de l'Apollon pythique. Il a été construit au IVe s. AVANT JC. et sa capacité est de 5000 spectateurs.
Le musée archéologique de Delphes est l'un des musées les plus importants et les plus populaires de Grèce. Il se compose de quatorze salles et comprend l'Aurige de Delphes, la frise du Trésor de Siphnian, le Sphinx de Naxos et d'autres merveilleux artefacts.
Arachova est une ville montagneuse et une ancienne municipalité de la partie occidentale de la Béotie. Sa vue panoramique n'est mise en valeur que par les petites maisons en hauteur, les rues pavées et l'architecture globalement pittoresque.

Definitely a must-book! Greece is so beautiful and has so much history to see, and this helped us put two days worth of touring the country into one without feeling rushed. We had Dimitris as our guide and he was fantastic: great conversation and as a local knew all the history of Thermopylae and Delphi and many other areas along the way. It was amazing to walk the same steps that many others did thousands of years ago and see the monuments built to honor these names like Apollo and King Leonidas that I had heard about from childhood. We even scheduled the day before (definitely not due to my lack of planning) and were contacted by the agency promptly and on the road the next morning at 8 AM. If you're trying to choose between spending a day in Thermopylae or Delphi, or you were trying to find a great way to spend a day in Greece without the hassle of finding transportation to and from, while still getting the same tour experience that you would at the Acropolis, look no further!
Stelios was a fantastic driver and guide. Kind, funny, and shared lots of history and stories with us. He even booked us a reservation for lunch whike we took our Delphi tour so we didn't have to lift a finger. Definitely recommend booking with Stelios!
It was such a fun and informative trip! We got to see our two top sites for this area (Delphi and Thermopylae) and Stelios, our guide, even looked into a spot we were interested in trying to see and was able to give us information that maps couldn’t. He clearly has a passion for what he does and me and my friends were so happy to have him as our guide! He went above and beyond, and even gave us pointers and recommendations on the way back to Athens for another excursion we had planned for later in our trip, and it really made the whole thing even better.
My wife and I had a private tour of Arachova, Delphi and Thermopylae, from 7 to about 4:30. Michalis was a wonderful host, and provided a wealth of information, modern and ancient details of Athenians, the significance of Delphi, and the major historical conflicts. The car was very comfortable and clean, and Michalis was flexible, fun and very polite. He had planned out the stops to stay in front of the inevitable bus tours/lineups, and was very communicative (through WhatsApp, etc.). He planned out a lunch stop (not included) in the town of Delphi which was a spectacular location and great food. Quick stop at Thermopylae but hey there isn't much there and we didn't need to stay long - I needed to go onto the last stand hill, for my own soul's sake. He had extra details on each site in a booklet, which was all that we needed. You may want more info if you are a history major but if you aren't then I think there is sufficient info. He even gave us a quick tour of Athens downtown hotspots on our way back into town. What a great day, thank you!!
I have to say that the driver Michael was great and gave us some excellent tips during the tour, his driving was great as well as punctuality! I gave a 4 star because the itinerary is a bit too dragged out, whereas the visit to village Arachova was very picturesque, Delphi town was great and an excellent spot for lunch, I am not sure if the archeological sit was worth it. The leoniadas museum and Thermopyle visit you should do only if you are an absolute fan of the legend like me, or else there is not much to see there
This was an incredible tour! Our guide, Michalis, was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of great historical information on the sites we were visiting. The car was extremely clean and comfortable, and we had a wonderful time on this tour.
Our guide Stelios picked us up from the hotel very punctually. On the way to Delfi (and later) he told us a lot of interesting stories about the history of Greece, the battles with the Persians and about the background of Delfi with the Oracle. That was really very entertaining and we think he could have told many more stories if we had wanted to. We filled ourselves very well. His driving style was also such that as a "passenger" you always felt safe and relaxed. About the tour: Delfi was very interesting. We followed the advice of Stelios and first visited the museum and then the archaeological site. This allows you to imagine some things better due to the exhibits and explanations in the museum in the excavation area. Whether you have to integrate thermopylae into the Tour, I think is worthy of discussion because of the long journey time. If necessary, a different combination, for example with the channel of Corinth or the like, would be more appropriate, provided that this runs out in time. Nevertheless, we really liked the tour.
I had an absolutely wonderful tour today! My driver was Michalis who did an amazing & fantastic job, starting from the accommodation, to the narration and the driving as well! It was definitely a great experience and I am happy and very grateful that Michalis took all the time to show me around his beautiful country! Very knowledgeable and very kind! 10/10, i can only recommend it, especially if you‘re interested in ancient and modern Greek history. Thank you so much!
